The budget 2007

More bad news for motorists

The Chancellor Gordon Brown has just delivered his budget speech in the House of Commons, and as we feared, there’s more bad news for motorists.

You know you want that Aygo...
You know you want that Aygo...
As predicted, the Chancellor has hit hardest those cars that fall into the top tax bracket based on CO2 emissions. The road tax charges for vehicles in the top category (over 225g/km CO2) will rise to £300 this year, and then to £400 in April 2008.

Petrol duty is set to rise by 2p per litre this year – although the change is deferred until October – with a further 2p rise the following year and a 1.8p rise per litre in 2009.

Performance motoring just became even more expensive.
