Car tax

so ... the million dollar question.

How does the new car tax affect our little cars ?

My gas guzzler V6 2.9i only does 2,000 miles per year ! :-(

TVRGit - can you explain - I have not seen the budget yet as I am away at the mo but I thought it would be higher than that ????

Whats he new basis for tax is it CO2's ????

Apparently Band G (cars over 225 gm/km CO2) is going up to £300 in 2007 and £400 in 2008!

Not sure what band the S is, but at least it isn't G!

think its the higher level if your car puts out more than 225g/km of co2.
was having a look for the info but i guess the dvla will stick us in a band somewhere.
bout time there was a fairer system, i done less than a thousand miles in mine last year, would think thats considerably less poluting than say a sales rep doing 20k a year even if he has an eco car.
also we are maintaining these cars and keeping them away from the scrappy therefore less waste into the enviroment.

Our cars cant be taxed on their CO2 level as they were made before the details were recorded on the V5

The advantages of running an older cars seem to be outweighing any advantage of getting a newer model

As Pies says - emissions only apply to cars from 2001-on.

pre 2001 there are only 2 bands - up to 1500cc (near enough) or bigger than that. We are the bigger category, was £175 last year, now £180.

I'm sure mine was only £165 this year, as I recall being shocked at how low it was.

Either way, it was cheaper than my two 2L cars so can't complain, as I have a sneaking suspicion the TVR might chuck out more CO2s than them

I only paid mine on Tuesday and it was definitely £175.

I'm going to have to go back and look, but I thought that the increased tax was only chargeable on cars first registered after a date in a few weeks' time, so I had releaxed on the basis that my S is 16 years old!
