I've got a slight ticking noise coming from up front, which is more evident under acceleration, and does rise in line with revs. I get no such noise when I ease off.
Before someone says is it the clock.....
Could this be one of the exhaust manifolds about to give up and if so can I check?
Cheers
Dave

Is it noticable when you rev it freely (ie bonnet up and stationary) or more so when under load?
Just tried that, not much of the ticking noise at idle or even when revving at stationary, does seem to be under load.
Hard to tell at speed as the general noise obfuscates but if I was hazarding a guess it seems more pronounced down the 1500-3000 rpm range?

Tappits?!
That would be my guess to, which could also mean a worn cam.
If it were a manifold leak it would be very noticable with your head under the bonnet and also much louder on a cold engine - manifold leaks usually quieten down a bit as the engine fully warms up.

Two other things worth checking, I have had both of these :-
A small stone stuck in the alternator drive belt.
Or
Bearing in the belt tensioner. When mine failed Had it sounded just like a hydraulic tappet that had failed to prime. It was very difficult to decide exactly where the sound was coming from and even had the experts confused. Obviously both of these are easy to prove, just pop the belt off and have a listen.
