Fibre optic bulb

Hi Guys

Does anyone know if the bulb for the fibre optic distributor is a standard 12V 5W or is it something special?
Also does anyone know if halfords stock it?
You might save me a 30 mile wasted trip!

I think its standard and readily available at Halfrauds.
It will take no more than 5 mins to take out and have a look at it.

You rang? I know one or two people were experimenting with the new-fangled LED clusters that have the same fitting; one possibility is that you could add some bling to your backlights

High power LED would also run cooler than a filament lamp. IIRC it was an unusual rating for the size of base (something like 8W in my Tasmin) that is now obsolete.

I knew you had a nugget to add I think some people have discussed replacing the light source with a bleeding great blinker of an LED and others have postulated on the pros/cons of doing away with the fibres and just fitting LEDs direct into each instrument. FWIW I think the latter is probably the way to go as the old optic fibres and matching into/out of them are probably a lot less efficient than running a bunch of LEDs off of 12V.

I started to investigate a numbe rof white LED's but didnt get to finish mine. I know streaky (where is he these days?) did something, then kinda fell off the planet !

If anyone knows of any LED's that have the same diameter as the little green condoms on the end of the fibre optics to fit into the switch backs, then Ill finish mine

All back working again apart from the fan switch which never illuminated.
One day I will have a grovel around to see if the holder or cable is loose but suspect I may need to remove the radio.

Incidentally the fibre optic distributor on the 400SE was just hanging loose behind the console on the left hand side & very easy to get to without removing anything.
