390 Fuel Economy... ****in 'ell!
Discussion
Well blow me down. I just did the calculations for the trip me Julie and I did to the Lakes this week: basically Teesside-Newby Bridge area via A66/ Kirkby Stephen/ Tebay/ M6/ A590, then some blatting about for a couple of days, then up the west coast (A595) to Ravenglass, Wastwater, Ennerdale, Keswick and back to Teesside.
I put in 15.5 gallons (not all in one go - and the tank was virtually empty to start with) and we did 357 miles. If it ran out now that equates to 23 mpg, including some (ahem) spirited dual/ A-road driving and stop/start stuff, plus chugging around the lanes in 4th, unable to see around the next bend. But I think there's still a fair bit left in the tank, may make it to 25 mpg average? We'll see....
Anyway, it's an improvement on the 18mpg I normally see! Maybe lowering the fuel pressure recently has helped.... certainly didn't stop me roasting several cars on the A66/ M6. This engine seems to be tuned so that, if you're already doing, shall we say, Ridiculous Speed (Spaceballs!?), and you fancy doing Ludicrous Speed, just squeeze a bit harder. I don't think I've ever used full throttle above 3rd gear, and the rev limiter still comes in at 5300 rpm...
I think I know what Spitfire pilots must have felt like...

I brought mine up from South West France last weekend and managed to get about 20 mpg. That was averaging about 100mph whenever possible. The worst thing is theat the guage shows empty but i only get about 30 litres or so in. Don't want to risk running out so its getting topped up every 130 to 140 miles.
