Hi, I was wondering what is involved in Turbo'ing a car, Here's what I've come up with so far;

Decompression plate
Custom Manifold
Turbo
IC
New ECU? or just re-map?
Larger Injectors?
Turbo timer???

It wouldn't be much more power so Im pretty confident the current conrods/pistons could stand the job.
Any Turbo people help me out here. Any rough estimate prices?

Thanks.

Decompression plate, Not the best way of doing it, if running low boost you may get away with standard compression. Or go the new piston route.

Custom Manifold, There may already be one available off the shelf, either from a similair engine or the conversion may have been done before. If not yes custom

Turbo, Obviously needed in some way.

IC, Again if running low boost you may get an intercooler off a similair car in the range from a diesel. Or you may be able to adapt one from another car altogether. Ebay is good for second hand intercoolers.

New ECU? or just re-map? Depends on the ECU, may need a piggy back module to help it.

Larger Injectors? Maybe, or you may get away with a 5th injector to supply the extra fuel on boost.

Turbo timer??? not neccesary.

If you do it on a budget you could do it for about £1500 if you get most of the parts second hand.

According to your profile your 17 and just passed your driving test - first thing i would do is check with your insurers, as they are likely to skin you alive.

But generally speaking...its easier to just buy a turbocharged car in the first place.

Well, I've been driving for 6months now, hehe. However, it will take me a good 6/8months + to save up enough for it . It's for my polo, I'm wanting something unique going to be polished up for show use at Edition38/UltimateDubs/PoloMania.

To be honest, if you're even asking the question you shouldn't be contemplating doing the work. It'll eat cash, whether it works, or doesn't, which is probably going to be the case after 5 hours of running.

Buy a few good books and learn about the subject, you'll then know how difficult and expensive a task you would be undertaking.

well id drop a 1.8 turbo motor from a golf in there. think it been done before (someone got on to fit in a lopo that races in the VW Cup). will see you as much power as a from wheel drive car can handle and should polish up pretty good if thats your thing!

Chris.

difficulty depends on your skill level or that of your mates who can assist. TBH, the 1.8t route seems a good idea to me.
