Anyone running in the pre-93 Touring Cars?

As per the title really - anyone running in the Classic Touring Car racing club pre-93 series?

Considering getting myself set up for the 08 season, and would like some pointers/advice (indeed anyone who has raced this era - the SELOC guys etc.)
Current plan would be for a Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 - cheap to buy, incredible chassis, good brakes, decent engine once modified (260+ without too much effort/expense), and benefits from LSD, dog-leg box, aero package, and a number of other goodies - including, bizarrely, pick-up points for 6 point harnesses.
The main problem is the almost total lack of engine tuning and GRP body bits when compared with the E30 M3.
The other option I'm considering is an early Cavalier 16v - made of paper and very light, fantastic 2.0XE engine, simple suspension and big arch/wheel wells. Doddle to modify.
