Right fellow phers I need some help with the content of my website. I only set it up because I had a few friends asking to see some pics so it's by no means an advert or professional site. Although, I would like to make it more like that. I've started to sort it out a bit but I'm getting a bit stuck and find myself adding image after image.

So if you get 5 mins can you take a look and make some suggestions please. What shots to take out and how many to have etc.

Cheers,

Matt.

Matt, I think you've made a good start.

However, I don't like the font you have chosen (is it agency?) as it appears very jagged and compressed on my monitor. Also parts of it have been chopped where you've increased in size (for instance - your welcome heading)

I think it would also be nice if you could fit the viewing window into the screen in one go. By way of explanation, on my monitor, when I click on a left hand menu option, the right hand viewing screen opens. However, the viewing window is cut in half and I need to scroll down to see the image. When I do this, the menu left hand menu disappears!

I like your designs, having tried something similar myself. Have you investigated silk screen t-shirt printing for these?

View it in Firefox - lots of overlapping text and lines and stuff.

Plus, and this is personal thing only, you understand - I absolutely HATE the third person on CV/portfolio type sites. Screams pretension.

Cheers for the comments so far. Just what i was after, keep them coming. Don't think i have too many images on there? I now know what i'm doing this weekend.

CY88 - the t-shirts are something that i've thought about for a while but never got round to as yet. But this is a route i'd like to go down shortly. Just need to find someone to do the silk screening to start off with. Then if all turns out well i'd look at producing them myself. I might get some of that printer paper that you can iron on to fabric, just to see what the images will look like on a t-shirt.

Matt,

Have to say that I think the site looks really good. I do like the way it's laid out with the wood and the paper/partchment.

I do agree with the other comments about talking in the third person, font style and overlapping. Try reducing your screen resolution to see how it looks. Also try a darker font colour for the menu button rollovers and esp. the contact form.. it's barely readable as the font colour is almost the same as the background.

Great site though

G

I'd say lose the clock and the google search option, change the font so it's not Times New Roman, and sort out the formatting, and you have a nice looking site there.

edit to add - I'm not a fan at all of the watermarks through all the images. Since the images are quite small and they are already embedded in a flash player, only someone extremely dedicated is going to steal them, and if they do they can't use them for anything really due to the small dimensions.

Just my 2p.

I only ask because I have been looking into the same for some stuff I've done. The iron on or photoprinted stuff woudl be ok for "prototypes", but silk screen appears to be the way forward, especially with images like yours which only use a few colours.

nice site, looked at the comments and the site and back to the comments and think that you have not uploaded the changes ?

"Feel free to have a browse through at your leisure and let me know what you think via the contact page."

3 lines of overlapping text is not fun

appears to be several font types and sizes, maybe pick the same font, but have different sizes ?

javascript is disabled by default and has to be re-enabled for site
pictures can be saved, but with the thick black watermarking i dont see the point, maybe something more subtle ?

snet6.jpg is a picture worth saving, if the text was at the bottom, might have saved it and then later might have contacted u if wanted some work done, but not going to save it as it is spolit

pictures don't have the alternate text listed, great for disabled people who use text to speech software....

www.mrsite.co.uk looks good, but 150mb space is nice, what is the bandwidth allowance like and how easy is it to move hosting company

overall a nice looking site

Yup the iron on would be for some prototypes. i'm not sure how hard / expensive it'd be to get the printing gear and produce them myself to an acceptable level. we used to do it at school with a wooden frame (just 4 bits of 3 x 1 knocked together) then the templates were made out of net curtain and masking fluid, lol. seemed to do the job but not sure about the finish for a product to sell?

it's something i've thought about a bit but not enough yet. trying to find the time to reasearch it properly. guessing that the initial outlay wouldn't be huge, maybe a few hundred. have thought about getting a few made up and selling them on ebay.

Thanks for your comments. I started to make a few changes on my lunch break. But the system at work kept booting my off before I could get it sorted out properly, damn IT department

I think I need to take the comments everyone has left and start the site from scratch. I can mail you a copy of snet6 if you like minus the text across it?

Only reason i used Mr Site was because a family member was already running with it and it seemed ok. With hindsight i should have looked around a little more. It wasn;t that expensive, £35 for the year and it's easy enough to transfer over to another hosting company. I can't remember how much bandwidth you get per month but iirc it's pretty generous.

copy of the picture would be nice, assume u can see email in profile ?

need to get a new website as moved isp a few months back, will be using notepad and Netscape composer 7.1 as they seem to work OK for me

the website creator you used is not bad for a newb, obviously works ok just like the freedom of notepad and not to be tied into a one size fits all

It lets me send you an email via PH not sure about the attachment. I've got this afternoon off work so I'll sort it out for when I get home.

I didn't get time to do anything with the site over the weekend. Ended up changing a gearbox on a series 1 RS Turbo. Well started it then decided it was too cold out on the drive so went and entered my son into the local Baby of the year competition lol.

When my subscription to Mr Site is up I think I'll go for something a little more involved. I'm pretty happy with the facilities they offer for now but the future may be different.
