Maserati Sport mode !
Discussion
Nothing whatsoever to do with either exhaust valves or a CC box - A 3200GT does not have variable valve timing or exhaust pipe systems with valves and was not fitted with a CC box.
On an auto without skyhook, it puts the box into a more agressive mode allowing gearchanges at or close to max RPM, allows kickdown at higher RPM and also (IIRC) changes to a more agressive traction control.
hope this helps

Fair enough, I've only really used it in the Gransport and 42.
A manual with the Sport button has skyhook. The sport setting doesn't just stiffen the shocks, it applies a completely different strategy (mapping) to the settings which vary according to the input received from lateral and longtitudinal acceleration sensors fitted to the car as well as speed etc. Basically, the more agressive you drive, the more it is noticable. I believe there are something like 14 settings that the electronics can automatically select depending on whether the sport strategy is enagaged or not.
Also, as robertf above correctly points out, Sport mode also applies a much more agressive traction control setting. This also varies on how the car is being driven providing a multi function sport "package" rather than adjusting a single parameter. Safest advice is do not use Sport unless on track or on good, bone dry roads - It WILL bite, it's just a question of when so be warned.
An auto WITH Skyhook applies the above + allows max revs on gearchanges / kickdown at higher revs.
An auto WITHOUT skyhook still has a sport button but applies the changes in my previous post
Hope this helps

It keeps the exhausts valves open making a big difference at lower RPM
I'm not sure about the manual box, but with cambiocorsa it extends the rev range slightly, shifting at higher RPM.

err...Gransport...read the previous posts. I apologise to the OP as I'm not used to the old Maser coupe and thought you were talking about the more powerful variant

I am of course referring to a 3200 that is properly set up and a great many are not apparently suffering as they do from incorrect valve timing since their original build - That's another story for another day however.
hope this helps[/quote]
Nigello, when can we hear the story about incorrect valve timings?
