Hi All,

I've had for a long time a slight rattle (noise that is) from the steering column area when going down bumpy residential streets.
Its been through a couple of full services without any issues being found but recently it does seem a bit more obvious.

Anyone had the same? or can anyone suggest a cause before i start delving too deep?

Many thanks,

Nik

I have a very similar problem with mine, mostly on bumpy roads - happens very occaisionally and mine is a 450 too.

Any thoughts appreciated over here as well.

Spooky rattle. I have just put mine to bed. I sounded like a gearbox bearing rumble on throttle and shut off (S**t I thought). But then when sat in the passenger seat it sounded like a cross between the bonnet cross struts vibrating and an exhaust rattle. After close examination I saw a very small flat on the bottom of the bonnet cross strut. When I eyed it up to when the bonnet was shut I saw on the top flange of the exhaust where it is crimped and welded a very small indent had been worn. I pulled the the struts together with a cable tie a guess what quiet as a mouse!! Take a look it was easily missed.

Mine has the same rumbling noise, but have noticed that once I get going on a warm day it goes away. Im wondering if it could just be a characteristic of the front dampers and possibly the bushes need to get warmed up before they work properly. No idea if this is correct but after loads of detecting, its the only explanation I can come up with.

Are the two bolts holding the steering column up tight?? Could just be that they're loose and causing the whole column to jiggle up and down a small amount???
