I'd love to play an updated version of something like Wing Commander or Privateer - you know, bit of trading, blasting, upgrading ships, backround storyline type of thing.

Is there anything out there that's good? Recommendations? Watching the new Battlestar Galactica has got my SciFi gene activated again.... :geek:

ETA: PC games only please

X3 is relatively recent and got good reviews. I haven't played it myself though - my obsolescent PC is way too slow to run it

X2 is older but also worth a go - you can pick it up, with the expansion pack, on ebay for less than a tenner.

www.eve-online.com - free 14 day trial, then pay by credit card, approx £15 per month. Most MMORPG games charge that much, I do have an alt under my PH name, but it is not my main character

If you wanted to give it a go and I knew your in game name, could probably arrange for you to get a bigger wallet

Not aware consoles had any space games and as for macs..tic tac toe is about as good as it gets

S'OK, and used to be amusing online, but it's dated pretty quickly and the single player mode is very limited.

ARGHHHH! *hides her credit card* I do not want my Megathron back... I do not want my T2-blaster-kill-them-all-yeah Megathron back... *rocks quietly in the corner*

Bloody good game.

Personally I thought HL2:Ep1 was pretty good.

I played Eve and really enjoyed it but ultimately I had to give it up as I just couldn't play it enough to (a) justify the monthly fee and (b) keep up with just about everyone else in my part of space - it's a game that really requires you to play it extensively to get the most out of it, and I just didn't have the time.

It's horribly addictive, if you're a fan of the genre - like e-crack! biglaugh

If you stay in Empire it's relativley easy to park up and leave the game for a few days; the good thing is that your trades and skill training keep going. But yes EVE is crack for anyone who's a fan of Elite and similar.

I recently bought X3 - however, there are no real instruction on what to do, at all! Am sure it's great, but making a start is prooving a bit silly!

Eve Online is amazing. Definitely the new Elite. I tried the trial version and decided not to subscribe because I knew I'd end up playing too much of it! The game play is very addictive, and the graphics is amazing as are the sound effects. I love the hyperspace jump. Put the speakers up (assuming you have nice bassy ones) and it's quite scary.

<female monotone> Warp Drive Active</female monotone> *BOOOM... ROARRRRRRRR*

Have you seen the test renders they put out of the DX10 client that's comming out? Even the flying hair-dryer (Vexor) looks sexy, wonder what super-chin (Brutix) looks like.

Considering their are so many people floating around here who have or are playing EVE... perhaps we should get a PH corp going?

Not a bad idea actually - I know I struggled to find a corp with like-minded people, rather than just joining the first one I bumped into who offered to allow me to join. Eve always struck me as a very lonely game - and one where you were likely to find it rather harder to get one, especially if you're a n00b - for a corp-less player.

I suppose the difficulty is likely to be that PH-ers are likely to be scattered across a wide area, so getting a common area of operations might be difficult.

Depends really. Even a n00b character can get pretty much get anywhere in Empire given an hour or so to let the auto-pilot jump you, did it myself with a Ammar character I made to help out a friend's POS in Gallente space. Problem would be anyone who's deep in 0.0, although we could probably just burn for them and get the good stuff off the bat

I think you've just warped away from the English language. Sounds intriguing. Must investigate.

I picked up Darkstar One a while back as I hanker after Privateer 2 on a regular basis.

Have yet to install it, mind (have only actually installed one game on the PC in the last 2 years!).

http://darkstarone.ascaron.com/gb/gb_

Googling for it was quite scary: www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&hs=VaL&q=darkstar+one+reloaded&btnG=Search
