Hi, a friend of mine has a '88 944 Turbo lying around, hes actually owned since new but its been gathering dust in his barn for the last year or two. We've now decided to prep it for a little track day abuse, engine and transmission are fine but I was going to overhaul the brakes and suspension, as I've no real experience with Porsches what would people recommend? I don't want to throw mega money at it though !
Thanks in advance...

Get an MOT on it and a good service and see what it throws up.

If it's a 250 bhp car you'll have the big brakes and Koni adjustables, if you get the Koni rebuilt and services at a specialist you could have a very good track car for not much cash.

If you have a lot of money KW suspension is good, although about 2k when fitted!

Should have mentioned, have MOT'd it, I was thinking along the lines of braided hoses, uprated pads..etc and if anyone has any recommendations?

If it's been sat for a year or two & you don't want to throw money at it leave it as-is for now & see what's good & what's not, either from age or because it's been sat for a while (seals dry out etc).

It's an extremely capable car as standard, it seems to me you're still at the stage of needing to make sure everything's working as it should before considering upgrades.

A set of Goodridge brake hoses would be a worthwhile investment simply because one of the more common things to perish when left unused is rubber and those four hoses are the ones you most want to have in good order

When I bought mine it had been sat in a warm dry warehouse for at least 18 months, it was in very good condition but I still needed to change two of the brake lines (I changed all four to braided because it worked out cheaper), the fuel lines as they pass over the rear suspension and the bonnet struts (as well as a service & fluid change). It also had a minor oil leak from one of the front seals & a power steering pipe that were fixed when the belts were done recently.

Find out what needs fixing before you start thinking about improvements imo.

Don't let it run low on oil if you track it.
