New lease of life for electric windows

I've just spayed the widows channels with Silicon lubricant and they now work more efficiently

Hi RAS, being abit thick where exactly do I spray? And where do I get hold of sum Silicon lubricant? My windows are abit naff, thanks,j

I purchased the silicone lubrication from Halfords, I used their own brand (I think it was under a fiver and its in a similar spray can to WD40). You my need to ask for it as it was not in an obvious place in my local store, if you have any problems let me know and will try and find the part number.

With the windows down I sprayed the front vertical channel the window edge slides in and if you look down inside the door at the rear you can see the top of the back window channel that is inclined at about 30 degrees that the back of the windows sits in when closed. I positioned the pipe that comes with the spray in the top part of this and allowed the lubricant to run down. I also rubbed some of the lubricant on the rubber seal at the front of the roof that the windows close against.

I then raised and lowered the windows a few times to spread the lubricant and wiped off the excess.

One word of warning, you need to protect the glass and body work with a rag to prevent the spray dusting other
surfaces.

The lubricant is supposed to be good for preventing rubber components from hardening and cracking, so plan to rub some onto the rubber hood seals in due course.

It's worth doing this if you ever have the doors apart for any reason. Probably not worth taking the door cards off just to do this job though...

This is a good idea, and one that I'd not thought of. I use the same silicone spray from halfords for various things and I think that 3 in 1 do a similar product.
