Has anyone any experience of fitting the Mark Adams chip into the 14CUX ECU of a 4.5 Chimaera.
It costs about £400. Is it worth it? They are listed on Ebay for the 4 litre Chim. Will this do for a 4.5?

Also, I have not been able to find out if the chip is pre-programmed or if it has to be re-mapped after installation.

If it's what I think it is, it's a generic map designed for a standard engine of your spec. You will need to get one suited to your engine spec (Mark will certainly have one if it's a standard engine).

If your ECU has a socket fitted, installing the chip just takes thirty seconds once you have opened the ECU. If it doesn't you will have to chop the old chip out and solder a socket in, which is a twenty minute job with a soldering iron. If your engine is non-standard or you want to get a chip that is tailored to your specific engine you will need a rolling road setup which will result in you getting a new chip specific to your engine.

If you are hoping a new chip will cure a frazzled ecu, I wish you luck.....

All the cars have socketed holders in the ECU AFIK. A 4.0 chip will not really be suitable for a 4.5 - if it is Mark that is selling them he may well give you one with the correct generic map for your car. If you ask Mark directly he will re-prog that chip, I dont know what he would charge for this.

Do disconnect the battery before you do anything electrical on the car (I guess you have learnt this the hard way tho )

I fitted one MAs chips a while back, look here

Yes they are a generic map, a best fit given the engine size, injectors used and AFM attached. but my experience has been very positive, the car runs a lot better a low (in traffic) speeds, no more kangarooing, and yes through the mid-range it pulls a whole lot more and the top-end sound is amazing cloud9 oh yeah and it performs well too!!

Ok, having a proper mapping session would definitely be so much better, but living 250+ miles away from MA and his giggery-pokery it was a compromise I was willing to take.

Thanks for the info, mainly positive.
Does anyone know what chip is in the ECU as fitted by TVR. You would think they would fit the best available or is it a standard Rover chip as used by off-roaders.

Its not a standard rover chip as the fuel map is created by TVR. But their priority's were not to get the most power out of the car and they were built to a price. The MA chip is supposed to be a big improvement, I am considering fitting one. But the TVR chip was modified from the rover chip supplied.

I have fitted the Mark Adams chip and am very pleased with it. II have no way of knowing if there is a power differencet but it definitly makes the car more responsive and pleasant to drive. Fitting the chip was easy and Mark Adams was very helpful and informative on giving information, tips and advice on checking the accuacy of the various inputs to the ECU.
