running costs of a Maserati 3200
Discussion
Still looking for a new car, looked at the XKR, but I'm put off by the auto box, also looked at the cerbera but been put off by the running costs and reliability (or lack of)
so iv been looking at the Maserati 3200 as it falls into my price band, i don't know a lot about them so i'm hoping someone on hear can fill me in and give me a rough idea on running costs and reliability?

timing belts are the biggies to watch for.
Had my belts done last April. £750.00 which included a full service and a full valet inside and out. Servicing is every 12k mile or 12 months, belts every 36k miles or 3 yrs which ever is sooner. Every other service is an intermediate service and none of mine have come to more than £500.00. All from main dealer.
Service fequency depends on mileage so if anyone is paying more than £2k pa for services they must be doing loads of miles.
Mine admittedly doesn't do any huge mileages, but in 14 months of ownership it has been totally reliable, and economic to a degree (315 miles to the fuel light coming on), and servicing is not too scary, as my local main dealer gives a 25% reduction as the car is now over 5 years old (£1500 for a service, belts, and new front discs and pads).

Well id would be doing about 8-10k a year but £750 a year is more than reasonable! my budget is about £1000 a year for maintenance, the cerbera was looking to be about £3000 a year and being only a lower rank in the RAF thats somewhat out of my depth!

I dont think you could run a 3200 for £1K a year............
see my profile - full running costs for an 18 month span - on a 1 year old 02 3200. 1 k a year is daydreaming I'm afraid.
I still love them, but mine cost me well over 1k per month including depreciation.
Having checked the costs major job mine needed in the 18 months
2 new lambda sensors. Parts 750 quid. Didn't pay labour but IIRC it should ahve been 10 hours to fit them. This isn't an uncommon issue.
New discs pads and a replacement front anti-roll bar (again these seem to wear out) plus a fix to a stone through the radiator 1750 quid.
Air Con compressor failure - replacement (used) about 1k.
Tyres - I was paying 350 quid per pair rears (last approx 6k miles).
The car uses oil (which is in itself expensive) and needs regular top ups. Some cars will use 1litre of premium selenia racing oil per 1000km. Even at the cheapest you can buy it this is potentially a tenner a month on oil before you start.
Dont' want to be a downer on the idea, but it really hurts to have a beauiful car that you don't want to drive in case it costs you more cash!

how much does a tank cost?
60 to 70 pounds a tank to fill her up from the light coming on.
My 3200 cost me £9k in 9 months in depreciation (much more relevant than servicing costs) and maintenance/fixing. This was on a 5 year old car with a warranty.
The worst car I have ever owned in terms of value for money as it could not be relied upon to act as a mode of transport, only as a bit of fun. Which is wasn't.

surely you should know the answer to that - you are in that armed forces after all. But to give you an idea - about £2m a pop - for a Challenger 2
