Picked up a PS3 today and have to say it's a little bit of a let down. Had four games in the deal, Motorstorm, Fall of Man, Call of Duty 3 and F1 (naturally, I am a PH'er).
So here's my sum up, Fall of Man and Call of Duty 3 are a little boring as you have to follow a set piece, Motorstorm is so so but with good graphics and F1 was poor as I'd already had 2007 F1 on my PS2 and the PS3 version is exactly the same...but with sharper graphics, so no advancement.

Other gripes:
Despite having wireless in our house and the PS3 finding it do you think it'll get onto the internet???? No way, despite 2 frustrating hours it won't talk to AOL!!! Common problem apparently? Great, so no online play then.

Any call centre numbers for support??? You're having a laugh....

Will my PS2 games work on it??? Nope, oh wait a minute, yes but only if you download a software update (and here was I thinking the PS3 was new?), but you can't do that if you're not online, so no...

Despite having a new Sony Brava HD tv, the main menu is in 1020 HD picture def but the games default to 720 when they start up, so no true HD (and yes, I did spend £25 extra on the proper cables).

Overall I think I've been a little sucked into the Hype and should have waited a year before:
a. Better games come out that use the PS3's potential.
b. All the wireless compatibility bugs have been sorted.
c. The unit ships with the right software.

Don't believe the hype.....

(Oh, if you can get one to work with AOL online then I'm all ears (eyes)...)

first - phone to aol re. the internet and wireless - don't blame the console.
f1 - what did you expect of you already had f106?
software updarea are a fact of life on any console, windows and ipod so get over it.
hd resolution - adjust it in the games. can you really not be bothered to change one option?

ps - the cheaper 20gb ps3 is rumoured to be coming in october

They need to write games that fully utilise the ability of the hardware, you never get many good games with the initial release.

What has me grinning is the unexpected increase in supply which has left alot of the people thinking they would flog them at a massively increased price on ebay with egg on their faces.

Im waiting for the Wii to a) be cheaper b) available. Ive had a Ps1 & 2 yet have no urge to buy the 3. The Wii is a completly different type of game play which looks more fun than getting rsi playing GT xyz. I heard yesterday there were issues with older games, weird that they didnt incorporate the software to play them, maybe its Sony saying stuff the old games we want you to stump up and buy new ones now..

Naturally phoned AOL "We don't support, you need to contact Sony" How??

F1, expected something along the lines of the hype "PS3, it's four times more powerful than PS2"

Software updates I accept but on a unit that has been shipping for less than 24 hours?? With the gestation period it had you'd have thought someone would have covered this off yes?

HD - Now I didn't realise you could adjust in the games, if you set it up correctly in the master system then you'd think the definition would remain in the games. Do I need to set the time/date/user id etc... in every game as well???

As I said, don't believe the Hype, the old PS2 was truly 'plug and play'. The new one is a let down, hence me being on PH'ers instead of burning the midnight oil on the PS3, surely a true sign that Sony have failed on this one....

I am quite suprised. I have only seen tech demo's on TV and i thought that Motorstorm game looked pretty incredible and my TV is not even HD.

I am not going to bother with a next gen console until i have a better TV though.

The Ps3 is overpriced at the moment and has relatively few games, none of which fully realise what it is capable of.

If you're looking for a good, relatively cheap, Blu Ray player then buy it. If you are after gameplay buy an XBox360.

Or a Wii, as their major selling point is game play! lol

Try changing the MTU to 1400 or 1450, don't ask me how you'd go about doing that to the chunk of plastic but if the manual covers advanced network config it *might* be in there.

Was at Bluewater the other day. PS3's everywhere (HMV, Virgin, Game, etc) didn't actually see one sold and being carted off all day. But they were in stock.

Yeah, that was funny... :

Anyway you're entitled to your opinion Rob, but I can think of a zillion good things to say about the PS3 so...

And also, on Motorstorm you can steer by moving the controller - much like the Wii.

In much the same way as the PS2 took a while - its gonna be some time before the developers figure out how to exploit the new PS3 hardware (as told to me by a PS3 game developer I work with). Give it a year or so & the games will arrive.

Sounds about right. It's very new system as far as the arch goes, although with the launch delays and such you'd have thought Sony would have thrown tons of money at devs to get top notch games out the door quickly for the machine.

Got the Wii, PS2 and PS3. Wii is utterly fantastic with the bundled Wii Sports and the separate Wii Play games. We also bought Zelda and Need for Speed Carbon - and have only played each once. The controller is just not designed for those games. Played the PS3 at my Son's friend's home after school on Friday, and went straight out and picked up one. Gameplay and motion sensor is far superior to the Wii for driving games. The uplift in graphics for HD is good, rather than mind-blowing if you are used to HD. Watched a Blu-ray Disc and again not a mind-blowing experience - but I do have a very good Denon 1920 DVD player connected to my TV via an HDMI - so, I maybe a bit spoilt.

Disappointments for me is 1. The Cost (it is too expensive) 2. It only ships with one controller and 3. I am having trouble getting sound to work with my Digital Optical cable for surround sound (I am sure I will crack it soon).

On the plus side, Motorstorm is great fun! and online setup is a doddle. Plus, playing on my DLP rear projection TV and my Brother's new 1080p Sony LCD TV - I am very happy that my rear pro picture is a lot more natural and better looking than an LCD.

I have no intention of getting a PS3, as I have the xbox360.

But I fear the next generation of Lara Croft & Tomb Raider utilising the PS3's power could change all that.
After all, Tomb Raider2 was the sole reason I bought a PS a year after it came out.

Quite funny seeing all the comments saying to wait a year and the decent games will come. Everybody seems to be forgetting the console is already 16 months late, surely enough time to get something decent ready ?? As it was meant to be released around the same time as the 360, and the 360 are already onto gen2 games, why shouldn't the PS3 be the same ?

Software updates on day one, I expected for the 360 as they rushed it out, the PS3 however, something that late should surely require nothing for a while ??

I know 5 people that pre-ordered the PS3, 3 of them cancelled, one has on ebay already and the other put it on Friday night and was back with us on the 360 within the hour. Not much of an advert for me

Was in Gamestation yesterday, asked how the launch day went and they said it was not as expected, they thought they would be flying out the door, when in reality, they had a pile left over at the end of the day.

I am pretty sure Sony have lost nearly all their exclusives as well ?

I shall be holding onto my money in the vain hope something will come along to prompt me to buy a PS3, but I can't see it coming in the near future. Anything I may have wanted a PS3 for is now available on the 360.

Are... are you kidding? Tomb Raider games make you decide which console to buy? Blimey.
