guys, can i have an idiots guide to removing the precats?
im ok with the spanners,but want an exact guide on how to do it, and am a little confused about the ecu chip and tune resistor that apparanly needs changing?
i see you also need to take the lambda sensors out to do the mod?
pictures would be most helpfull :-)
is it easy to remove the y piece too?

There are some picture on the site somewhere, try a search. If not I'm sure someone will link to them soon enough.
I'll start you off; to remove the lambda sensors (yes this is a good idea to do) you'll need a deep thin walled 17mm socket and you'll have to cut a slot along it. Easiest way is with an angle grinder with cutting disc, if not then use a hacksaw (doubled up blades).

I removed the plastic protection sleeve and had plenty of clearance.
I'll start you off; to remove the lambda sensors (yes this is a good idea to do) you'll need a deep thin walled 17mm socket and you'll have to cut a slot along it. Easiest way is with an angle grinder with cutting disc, if not then use a hacksaw (doubled up blades).

removing the y piece is done from the engine bay, just undo the exhaust clamp, down next to the sump, slacken off the 2 clamps that hold the y piece to the manifolds, you may need to give these a tap to free them, them wiggle the y piece towards the front of the car and out she comes.
As for the precats there are several ways that people have removed these, but I actually cut the pipe on the welded seam just before the precats, persuaded them to come out with a drill and chisel, then fitted some cones inside the pipe to reduce the diameter to 2 1/2", as really the 4" pipe is only that size because of the cats inside it, then weld it all back up and off you go.
as for the fuel resistor you shouldn`t have any problems, so leave well alone, the lambda sensors still do their job, but you will need to change the fuel resistor if you remove the main cat as well, if you are going to have a go send me a mail via my profile, may have something useful for you.
