Hi Guys!

I've just signed up to this site as I'm having a few problems with a little project of mine and I'm hoping someone can help! I am a mechanic by trade and will be happy to dispense any knowledge I have in assisting any of you in the future!!

Right, I am in the process of renovating a 2.8i special capri and have just aquired an engine from a 1998 ST24 mondeo; me thinks 'ST Capri' possibly a first? However, I know the engine is good but I can't get it started, no spark; I'm 99.9% sure its the immobiliser. its not been started for a long time so i reckon they've gone out of sync? The engine and loom are sat on the floor and i would like to get it started again before transplanting. I would also rather not take the alarm/immobilser into the capri so does anybody know a way of bypassing it or failing that just how to get the thing going again?

Please help????

Have you got the ignition key and the ignition lock/transceiver from the Mondeo? The transponder in the key has to be matched to the ECU. If you have the red master key from the ST you can program a new key to the ECU, otherwise you will have to get a Ford dealer to program it with their diagnostic system.

Out of interest what gearbox are you going to use with the ST engine in the Capri?

Have you bypassed or reset the fuel cut-out switch? I know this cuts the fuel off but may also cut the spark.

Out of interest what are you going to do with the inlet manifold as the throttle body will be at the wrong end?

There is a chap on the Mondeo Enthusiasts Group site in the serious performance forum putting one in a Mk3 escort on RWD.

Hi guys!

Thanks for the advice! I have bypassed the IFS switch, after lookin at the wiring diagrams for the ST it looks like the immobiliser shuts down the fuel side as its into the injectors, the fuel pump relay, transmission valve block? and the 2 ego sensors! I had modis on it today and came up with just 1 code stating 'number of programmed keys below minimum'! I only have the one ignition key with the black ring transponder thingy and the ign switch! I have bought a cd off ebay that reckons to be the reference ford use so I'm hopin that will shed some light also i'm gunna give a local diagnostics and key programmin expert a bell tomorrow to see if he can recommend anything!! Just bugs me bout the spark when immobliser shuts down the fuel, thought any other problems would have produced a dtc!!

I have seen the escort, that is one brave fella, I wouldn't dare temp something that intense!

I haven't put any serious thought into the throttle and wot not as i'm a little way off installing it yet, I'm still bringin the body back to life. Besides, I want to get the lump running before I start messin around mounting it, just in case its cream crackered! I can post a few pics of the quest so far if anyones interested?? I was thinkin bout MT75 g'box but will prob have to convert to elec speedo sens??

Thanks again for ur assistance people; tis greatly appreciated!! Any more ideas please giv me a shout!!
