came across stunning 4.5 cerbera in my 4.2 today on a very empty private road? identical performance right through rev range,i was slightly longer in gears, was i driving mine harder? or is this the norm other driver just thumbs upped and drove of is 4.5 any quicker? davy

I didn't think so when I drove one a while back. If anything I thought my 4.2 felt quicker.
Standard 4.2's can dyno higher in BHP and torque than standard 4.5's as well. But with the 4.5 you have more tuning options such as red rose and short induction / etc.

I heard that after '99 the 4.2's were actually 4.5's in disguise anyway..... also if your 4.2 has GTT in the engine code number (can't remember where to find that) then it is an early (pre '99) 4.5 but dressed up as and sold as a 4.2.

Or if it's an early 4.2, it may well still have the clatter cams on, and those cars seem to be a lot faster than the later 4.2s straight out of the box...

Dunno who it was who was saying that a fwd hot hatch would murder a Cerbera through twisty roads, but after yesterdays trip back from Thruxton I can happily report that it's not a Focus ST. He only caught me up on the straights as I refused to go over a certain speed but I was much faster through the bends.

That was me !!So I suppose I'd better qualify the statement before you all take the pi$$ out of me . Cerbera's are basically a race car toned down for road use, and on a decent dry surface they are in there element, but take them out on a wet twisty road and they become a real handful. A light car on big wide tyres, and they slide, and I wouldn't race a Hot hatch in those conditions.
On Sunday I was coming back from Swindon doing a nice steady 90 when an MX7 went hurtling past me, later on I came up behind him because he had to slow down, I could see him looking at me in the mirror and when the road cleared he floored it and I thought "Right then! I stayed right up his a$$ and he wouldn't pull over, but at 130 he decided to, and I just went past him like he was standing still and I was doing 150 before I knew it - love it

There you go Cooky See I was only doing about 60mph in reality. Do people really believe the things we say on here - I was drunk at the time anyway so I haven't a clue what speed I was really doing, probably more like 15mph!
