Above 60 MPH there seems to be a strange whining noise coming from the gearbox area. The faster I go the louder it gets.
Not sure if this is enough information, the car is a 1996 Seat Ibiza 1.4. Done about 67000 miles

Thanks

This is likely to be one of a few things; inner driveshaft bearing, g'box pinion bearings or diff bearings. 67k is quite low for failures in the g'box but not unheard of. I had a g'box pinion bearing go recently at 87k miles. This made a whine which incerased with vehicle speed and was not related to which gear you were in. Having said that, all of the above suggestions will display similar sysmptoms. Unlikely to be a wheel bearing as they tend to "drone" a bit more.

A good garage should be able to give you a more definitive answer after a test drive. Hope this helps.

Also check the gearbox and engine mounts.
You may just be hearing normal mechanical noise being transmitted direct into the chassis and amplified.
