Orange Cayman in London - be careful with those keys...
Discussion
Drove past a bright orange parked Cayman S (looked like a custom colour job and looked actually quite stunning) near Marble Arch at about 6.30am this morning.
Front boot open, both windows down.... Hope it didn't rain last night or some chav nick all your CDs... Be careful as those keys are very sensitive (done it myself a few times).
When the hell is Porsche finally going to sort out the issue of over sensitive keys...!!

Interesting point as my wifes A3 has a habit of all of its 4 windows going down due to over sensitive keys - i assume leaning on them while in your pocket. Same thing happened with a 6 series convertible, my neighbour chapped the door to inform me that the roof was half open? (The 6 series enables you to lower the roof by using keys, i think the new 997 uses the same idea),i guess i should be thankfull that it was not raining.

Not 6:30pm this morning then?
However, what do you mean about over sensitive keys? My button is quite hard to press especially long enough for it to open up the windows.

There's a well known issue with 997s and Caymans (esp the early ones) with over sensitive keys, meaning the windows lower by themselves etc just with people putting keys in pockets etc. James May even referred to his Boxster doing the same thing on Top Gear recently.
I did hear that Porsche have a software upgrade that fixes the problem but last time I spoke to my OPC they didn't know about it.
the number of times i have come back to my car to only to find out one of the boots are open is quite frightning.
£55k for a car and you end up with a key the size of a house brick that you only have to look at for it to open all the windows, boots etc.
why they cant use the audi key or even the keyless entry is beyond me.
however if thats the worse thing you can say about a car then you are driving some machine.

I have exactly the same problem with my GT3.
They keys are VERY badly designed. Another irritation is that the same key locks and unlocks the car, so you never quite know what youv'e done when you walk away from the car.
God help you if you put the keys in your pocket, door locks and boot will be going up and down like a yoyo.
Having just joined the Porsche club I have found this slight niggle as well. I'm generally pretty careful but have noticed on a couple of occassions that my bonnet is open.....at first I did wonder whether I had not closed it. Fortunately the car is parked in a secure residential parking area. How about a nice glass start button like on the Aston and keyless entry. I'd happily pay a bit extra for the car for that. More sadly after just three weeks of ownership by pride and joy just got a stone chip on the front windscreen and as its right by the edge so it looks like I'll need a replacement - ouch, and I'm guessing this will not be cheap - anyone had to have this replaced via insurance and got a satisfactory outcome from using an Autoglass type firm?
It's been a bugbear of mine (Cayman) for the last year.
After some comment on here, I visited my OPC to talk about it again, but they hadn't heard.
I work around the problem by carrying my keys away from the car flat in my hand until I'm a safe distance. As you say, rubbish situation on a £50k car.

They do have a fix, although not as clever as a software upgrade!
I took my boxster to the OPC to have the "software upgrade" done to stop this happening, when I got the key back the service advisor told me they just file back the contacts to make the button more difficult to press. To be fair the OPC did not say it was a software upgrade, I had just heard this word of mouth.
It certianly works - could be an easy DIY job?

The software 'enhancement' is a reprogramming of the key response time in the PAS and REAR ECU's- from 300 miliseconds (short), to 1100 miliseconds (extra long), it reduces the amount of false operations as most are a simple brush of the key when put in a pocket etc.
It is carried out via the coding section, with a system tester.
All OPC's should know about it as it has been a feature since PIWIS version 16.0 - we are all now on version 17.02
Hope this clears it up??
