Hi,

My sons Mini has rust coming through the bottoms of both doors.

Can anyone give me an idea, of how costly remedial action will be?

Will it require new doors, or is it normally a rub down and re-paint

Obviously I wouldn't expect a definitive answer, because you don't know how much rust is there. Needless to say, we are not at the holes point yet

Hard to say, really, although they do rot through quite badly, especially under the bottom of the door (i.e. not just the door skin, but the base of the frame. Rub down, rust inhibitor (e.g. Kurust), filler, primer, rub down, top coat. This should tidy it up for a while, but it will inevitably come back at some point. I have a decent passenger door spare if you're interested (and can pick it up!). Driver's doors seem harder to come by but you could have them properly reskinned by the Mini Door Company (www.minidoor.co.uk)

Or you could fit fiber glass doors from curley. Not the cheapest option in the world, and they will flap a bit when you get up to any sort of high speed.. But the do not rust! Magic!

Whip the doors off, but soak the hinge nuts in WD as the studs usually sheer off. Take the glass and trim off. The skin is held on by being folded over the frame and you can see the odd spot weld which just needs grinding off. Put on a replacement skin and carefully dolly over the lip and find someone to tack weld in place. The bottom stip of the inner door may need a new strip welding in but if youve already taking the skin off, the welding should cost much. Then get em painted.

I suppose what i'm trying to say is that its a fairly straight forward job to do properly, the worst parts are getting the door off the car, then getting the glass and locks off, replacing the skin is a simple process.

How are the A panels?
