Good Morning. A shout out to all the pre '89 air cooled bridage, or anyone who know a bit (a lot) about tyres. I'm in the market for some new rubber in the not too distant future, I currently run my '89 3.2 coupe on Toyo Proxes which have been great, and I'm interested what other people might recommend. The wheels are standard Fuch's.

Cheers

Bridgestone Potenza SO2's are the tyre of choice.
There are deals to be had, but expect a bill of about four and a half on the car.
If anyone can get them cheaper feel free to post, Im just about to order from www.blackcircles.com or www.mytyres.com. whoever is cheapest.

On the 3.2s, I've heard good things about the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s as an all round road tyre.

Worth looking to the Khumo Ecsta MX too.

Inexpensive, but very good.

thanks for the leads, a very useful lunchtime spent searching the net. A bit of a thicko question but I'm running on 205/55's and 225/50's on 16" wheels can I go any wider? Please feel free to abuse me if this is a very thick Q

Just out of interest, were your old Proxies T1R or T1S?

Cheers.

For the answer to that we need to know the rim widths.

Andy, would I find that on the tyre somewhere or on the wheel? As far as I'm aware the car is factory standard late 1989 coupe if that helps

Post a picture of it.
My guess they're 6's and 7's, in which case nothing bigger than [F]205/55/16's[R]225/50/16
If youve got 7's and 8's, you may be able to go up to 245/45/16's on the rears, but Id leave the front with the 205/55/16's.
My advice, leave it standard, whatever size Fuch you've got.

Stuttgart, I think you are right, I wanted slightly bigger rears for that 'Barney Rubble' look but I think on balance and after the most brilliant drive in this morning I'll leave the beast as is! I'll take photos of my P&J this evening and try to upload them.

Most of us like the rear arch to be filled out, and get that fat look.
If thats the case, fit 225's on the rear with 8's the rear will be filled, with 7's fit 30mm spacers. I could show you a couple of good jpegs, but work has bogsense, which blocks photoet.com
