spare parts for power steering

hello,
at first - please excuse my poor english.
I've got an 97 cerbera. the steering has to much backlash. I can't adjust any more, because of abrasion.
Due to the steering gear is a vendor part, i need to know the producer to get some spare parts in germany.
please help.

Explain a bit more what you mean by "Steering backlash" It could be the Shock Absorbers.
But a place that seems highly recommended is Greenwich Power Steering Services, just send your steering rack to them.

no, the all shock absorbers are new. i can turn the steering wheel a little to the left an the right without moving the steering link (should i have used "clearance" instead of "backlash"?).it seems that there is definitely too much clearance between the rack steering an the gear (at the end of the steering column). all links and the cardan joint of the column are alright. but i have no engineering drawing -so i don't know exactly which part inside the steering gear could be worn too. but it seems to be the gear.
i just need the producer of the steering gear to order some parts.

Michael - You can't buy the parts to repair the rack. If you are sure it is the rack. remove the rack from the car and send it to Greenwich Power Steering Services. I know you are in Germany, but you can still post things to England, they are a reputable company and you should get it back within 7-10 days as good as new.
PS The word we use in English is 'play'. As in "There is too much play in the steering"

The steering rack is made by (or at least for) TVR.
If you look on the top of it there will be some writing on the casting that confirme this (I found it last week so it's fresh in my memory).
I was working on the steering on my car this evening as it is very stiff to turn so I've seen the bits you are talking about.
If you remove the cover panel between the engine and the radiator it will be easy to see if the "play" is coming from the steering column and its joints or from the rack.
With the engine running, turn the steering wheel slightly and watch the point where the steering rack connects to the column.
It will be obvious if the play is in the rack or in the joints on the column if you do this.
As for the bits to recondition the rack, surely they can be got for us to do the job ourselves.

On the www.power-steering.co.uk web site they say Seal kits also available .
It's probably worth sending them an e-mail about this.
If it works out I'm sure we'll all be interested in getting them at some stage.
Also the gaiters on the rack are off a Ford and the details are in the "Equivalent Parts" thread here http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.
before you remove teh rack make absolutely sure the bottom universal joint onto the splined input shaft to the rack is TIGHT .. not just a bit tight but TIGHT TIGHT !! .. this is 99.99999% of times the cause of play felt at the wheel. You might have the 0.000001% car that is the rack, but check that bottom UJ first!! Really give it a good check.
Before you do that remamber that there is a 'play' adjustment on top of the rack.
There is a nut with an allen key centre in the middle. The allen key pushes the steering cog into the spline. Loosen the nut and gentle screw the allen key clockwise.
Too much and the steering is stiff, too little and there is excessive 'play'

A useful piece of advice that i searched the forum for this afternoon, as it cured the play in my steering, tight as a Scotsmans purse now! Not much room to get yer spanners in underneath though, but worth the effort. Thanks Joolz
