Cerbera Reliability
Discussion
i was of same negative thoughts had mine 6 weeks caned its behind not missed a beat touchwood ,i came from the evo pilot school of mega grip it is horses for courses, i luv my cerbera and would take it any where ps my brother is bmw mechanic and says it is easy to work on when you stip of all parts to get to repair, servicing bills are down to labour not parts ,buy one take the chance you can always sell it davy
Clutches are one of the main problems, and the associated parts that go with them.I.e slave cylinders.Has ive said before you have to be a commited enthusiast to take on a Cerbera and go in with eyes wide open. One thing for sure they need to be used.Dont leave them locked up for months on end. They get better with use.
Hi James
I have had my Cerbera since beginning of June last year. I took it to Le Mans two days after I bought it and have actually done around 8K miles in it to date (and that's with two other cars as well!). Only one problem, the clutch went whilst I was in Blackpool, but the car got me 260 miles home, so I cannot complain.
It is a truly fabulous car and I can't imagine ever wanting to part with mine. I should also add that have been driving TVR's for 10+ years and I have never been left stranded. I have had a single overheating problem in a Chimaera, which was entirely my own fault.
TVR's sometimes develop little quirks which need fixing but that is a small price to pay for the driving experience, they are amazing!
There will be other people who have had more problems and others whose experience is trouble free, so it's a tough call.
If you truly desire a Cerbera, I would say get one as soon as possible. They are awesome

Newbies! :P
seven years+, 66k miles+ of our own use (3years and 4kmiles of someone elses)
Aside from the clutch (various problems x3), starter motor(x3?), driveshaft (x1), Radiator (x2) and piston seals on the caliper... the rest has been relatively trouble free. Sure there is the occaisional niggle (less frequent than you'd imagine) but otherwise... its been great.
Please bare in mind this Cerb doesnt just sit on a motorway for its miles, its used daily for the commute to work, (dual carriageways and roundabouts - Cerbera territory!) driven through heavy Birmingham traffic often enough (not cerbera territory), used on hillclimbs/sprints (atleast 8 every year for the past three years), speed trails once a year, Le Mans trip once a year and trackdays about once a year. Yep, they cost alot to run, budget 3k a year excluding insurance/petrol and you should be laughing.
Even at 3k a year, its a bargain to run for the kind of performance, character and grin you get.

I've had mine 6 years and it's only let me down twice in a "low loader" way. Once just the big fuse and once a very very dead battery. I now carry 10 spare fuses and have the biggest battery Jools could fit.
I've had other stuff done (new clutch, radiator recore, starter etc) but nothing that left me by the side of the road.
Then there are the voluntary mods...

I'm gonna join in here with:
- clutch bits (master, slave & clutch itself)
- big fuse fractured
- battery lost charge
- throttle cable bracket crappy spot weld snapped
as bits that have made my car stop working. Only clutch was garage job. Other things are saturday morning fettling fixes.
Had a few other things done in the quest to make it immaculate (rad recore, diff bushes, engine tuneup etc etc).
all forgiven as my car makes everything else on the road go backwards

Had mine three and a half years from new, done 22k miles. Only troubles apart from minor niggles have been a starter motor and steering wheel ribbon cable - both under warranty. I've recently had to fit a new throttle cable, fortunately I noticed it was frayed before it went. Ive had several TVR's over 14 years - the Cerbera is by far the best. Fantastic car!
