After what seems like an age I finally got hold of a life's dream........... my own TVR bounce

Picked up a gorgeous violet touch 4L 2000 plate Chim. Cheers Matthew you are a top bloke !!!!

First commute today was the best of my life, in Glossop we have loads of walls to bounce that
superb V8 burble from, I was grinning like the Joker all the way to Stockport and back !!!!

Can't fault the car (apart from....... see end off), it is sweet as a nut.

Took a friend out for a blast tonight and to quote " Fcensoredk me that is TOOO fast !!!"
(note to self, 5L in years to come)

Just 2 probs really, the body work has been touched up poorly in a few places, more blobs of paint
than a real "chip fill in". How's the best way to correct this ? I was thinking on the lines of cutting it back with AutoGlym resin polish and re-doing the touch up, any suggestions ?

Also there is a nasty whistle from the top front (towards the hinge) drivers door, the windows seem to close properly but is it a matter of just replacing the door seal ?

I must add you guys on PH are the bogs dollocks, been a lurker for months and picked up so much info
to help me on the way..............

Just Giddy !!!!

Jason

clap clap Big Congrats..
Re-touching paint on Tivs is not the easiest job in the world unless it's a solid colour. A lot of colours don't touch up well even in expert hands.

Looks a very nice car from what I can see, try to keep it that way by not being too heavy right footed when it rains. IT WILL BITE YOU BIG TIME!

Take care and keep it shiny side up. OH yes

ed to remove this
Your pics are a bit on the small side to see much detail. Perhaps get out tomorrow and take some hi-res ones when the sun comes out.

hehe

clap Welcome to the fold and nice looking car you've got yourself.....you'll find that the grin just keeps getting bigger yes

I know the feeling after getting my Chim in January.....it's like being a kid at Christmas and you'll find yourself looking at her in the garage, driving by a shop window to see the reflection and having multiple admiring glances back whilst walking away after parking her up!

Can't help with the bodywork I'm afraid apart from maybe getting in touch with a car detailer.

Careful in the wet and don't engine brake! Have fun driving

Thanks Big AL.

The originals are 7 meg so tried to comprise !!!! Maybe it would help if I post a few of the offending areas?

It is a lovely metallic purple/aubergine, I can imagine that it would be hard to match accurately. But if I could at get rid of a blob or 2 !!!!

Will post some pics of the "Blobs" tomorrow.............

Chapel to Castleton is one of my favourite roads (not the main road) when its quiet.. I assume you will be driving Derbyshire way for entertainment ~ well Stockport is not exactly a thriller is it?

You will see quite a few cars observing the speed limits round the Peak District in the summer evenings

Chapel to Castleton is a real doer !!!!

Must add the Snake Pass to that for extra thrills (incorporating Woodhead and the Strines on the way back), I love the Glossop to Chesterfield run, a blast !!!! I pop over to Leek somewhat so that is a must for the Chim via Buxton.

Glossop road (through Charlesworth/Chisworth) is a blast in the morning, they reduced it some years ago to 40 but it is and always will be a 60 to me !!!!!

Too much off the red stuff otherwise she would be out of the garage and waking up some peeps !!!

 clap Well done chap.
Congratulations, and welcome. Lovely looking car.

Best piece of advice i can give: once you feel you have got the hang of it, and you are thinking of "improvements", invest some money on a Ride-Drive course rather than something mechanical.

Stunning colour! Well done that man! Enjoy! With regard to the whistling, mine does this occasionally if the roof is slightly misaligned, try refitting the roof and then bang the right hand corner to make sure it is slotted in fully. If no joy new rubbers may be the answer. Another option is to raise the window height, there is a screw that does this at the base of the window about half way along on the outer edge. Give it a couple of turns.

Easy to resolve, drive with the window down, it has 2 advantages, the whistle goes away and you can hear the sound of the engine... much better driving experience IMHO

Ahhh... but I hadn't released the clutch before exiting the bend yes Tough habit to break though but have been practising in my Chim since getting her. Will be doing the ride-drive as soon as I get some spondoulies together!

Nice looking car great colour.
With regard to the paint issue ,its never going to be a great match but the best way to fill the chips is to first get cellulose paint , paint the chips quite heavily then wipe the paint lightly with cellulose thinners and cloth which helps to loose the paint that goes over the edge of the chip but hopefully not remove the area you need to fill. The original paint will not be touched as this is 2 pack. You can do this a few times to build it up then when you are happy one thin last coat but don't smooth off with the thinners then apply a thin coat of clear lacquer again all on touch up stick no spraying. Then once it is dry try going over with the dark red polish which goes some way to help. Don't use white polish or it leaves deposits of white on every edge.
Note:- The paint in the chips a present will most likely be celly so it will come off with celly thinners. If you put Wet and dry near any of it you will end up with stone chips twice the size and don't go giving it loads of rubbing compound or T.cut or you will be in danger of going through the clear lacquer. Also if the chips are really deep use very fine easy sand filler , again you will be able to loose the edge and fill only the chip if you wipe very gently with celly thinners on a cloth .
