Formula 1: 2007 Season
Discussion
I am new to istonheads as of today and this is already my second topic... so I am a BIG fan of F1 and since massa joined the sauber team a few years ago I have been a fan of him, as he is now in the Ferrari I believe that he has a very good title shot, now I know he has been slated by the press since the begining of last season but I seriously believe he is the best driver in the championship and that Kimi Raikkonen is heavinly over-rated. I think he did a cracking job with Schumacher as his team-mate and if the Ferrari did not break in Melbourne I think he would have won easily as he came sixth from the back and with competition considerably closer this season I think this was a huge acheivement.
The point of this topic is to find who the Pistonhead comunity think will win this years Championship?
Many Thanks

Alonso will win the drivers title again. McLaren the constructors title.
Agree that Raikkonen is over-rated, & although Massa has improved over the last year, still think that he really doesn't have the reacing form to justify a drive with Ferrari. But that's just my opinion.

In a word, I think Kimi Raikkonen will have this one done up like a kipper, he's jumped into a new team, new culture and won first time out. Top driver even if he does seem devoid of personality.
I think that Lewis is going to be very intersting to watch too, to do that well in your first race takes some seious doing!!!

I think that following the Malaysian GP we will have a good idea of the form book for the coming season. If the Ferrari works well there too, it'll be catch-up time for McLaren and BMW-Sauber.
I'm not sure that Massa, much improved driver though he is, could really have lived with Raikkonen's pace in Melbourne. Don't forget that we really only saw perhaps one lap of the potential Raikkonen had in that car and IIRC his fastest lap was nigh on a second quicker than his nearest rival's.

agreed. i think mclaren will improve no end this year
i dont think massa has what it takes. sure he has improved a great deal, but then he really couldnt have got much worse. seeing his face standing with the mechanics when kimi put in the 'whole second' faster lap (in oz) was a picture, a smacked a**e if ever there was one. i dont think he has the maturity to win a championship yet. and his team-mate, whilst over-rated, is still very much quicker than him.
(having sais that he'll have a new engine in malaysia so he's got a good shot at the win).
change sides quickly!
As much as Id love it to happen as I think Hamilton has the potential to be truely great, I just cannot see a rookie of any calibre come in and blow the current 2x champion away. Even if over one lap Hamilton proves to be quicker, to beat Alonso's consistency over a season in your first year is asking a hell of a lot, because you can guarantee that Alonso will make maybe one mistake all year, if that.

Im with you. Massa all the way. I don't think Raikkonen has the all round game. No doubt hes a great driver but I just think Massa has that little something, and hes got more experience of the Ferrari.
I think you may find Ferrari pulling everything out of the bag this year to win constructors as well. Looking forward to the next race.

Don't quite understand that. What more does Kimi need exactly? If Ferrari can continue to give him a fast, reliable car...and he has demonstrated an uncomplicated ability to drive to win...and he's generally agreed to be the quickest driver... who rarely suffers from pure driver error...
I'd say that Raikkonen is the more rounded driver - after all, it's only in the last year that Massa has really calmed down and stopped over-driving the car. I'm not sure he has that "something special" - after all, he didn't really shine last year until that last race and was consistently slower than Schumacher in qualifying and races IIRC (but I haven't double checked the stats on that!)

I'm with you, I don't know where people are getting this idea that Raikkonen crashes a lot from.
He'll be WDC with four races to spare.

I think there may be confusion over the circumstances that led to him retiring from a significant number of races over the last couple of seasons... i.e. the inherent unreliability of the McMerc package during that period, rather than driver error on Kimi's part.
Given that he was driving up to a second per lap within himself in Oz, I don't predict too many more driver errors from him this season either.
That said, I hope and pray that Massa and Alonso can raise their games to start pushing KR all the way. I feel confident Alonso will, at least.
Think it'll come down to reliability.
(Have a feeling KR may need an engine change before Malaysia).
I think KR aka the Arctic Mute is now the fastest driver after Michaels departure.
Therefore, if the Ferrari is reliable then KR will win. With Massa 2nd.
If it's not then FA in the Mclaren (so long as that's more reliable than last year).

I reckon Kimi was the fastest before Schumi left!
I'm not so sure that Massa will be second... I'm still putting him in a close fourth or distant third place.
Hey, I think we will have to keep a look out for the like of Kubica if the BMW Sauber can pull them selves even more together...I still believe Felipe will show his critics up this year and even though Kimi said he nearly fell asleep in the race I dont believe him for a second i believe he was trying his hardest all race as undoubtedly Alonso would have caught him if he wasnt trying. We will see how the race in Sepang goes.

Re Ralph
It's like the classic story about the texan who bought the old London Bridge, thinking it was Tower Bridge
Toyota sure the Schumacher name on the contract and failed to notice it was the wrong brother. Isn't ralf one of the highest paid drivers on the grid
Toyota should of ditch him and Trulli - but then you look at the test driver Franck Montagny ! Surely they have the worse driver line up on the grid
