OK, about time for another possibly daft question.... '98 450, electric windows are temprimental, n/s works most of the time, o/s goes up but not down. just taken centre console out to check wiring etc and all tests out fine with a meter.I have swapped the switches over and neither side works, changed them back and n/s works again but o/s temprimental. wiggled the wires and was a little better. could 1 switch be breaking down electrically, and would i need both switches in place for them both to work (in series??). if it is a dodgy switch, where can i get them from??

thanks in advance

Does your car have the centre air vents in front of the switches? These can really heat up the switches and will probably damage them over time. I think they are a Vauxhall part, but I'm not sure which model they're off: probably the Mk II Cavalier (1988-1995). I'd take a switch along to the scrapyard to compare them.

Are you certain the wiring is ok? If the N/S works ok, that would rule out the switch. But when you swap them around and neither side works, that would tend to suggest a wiring fault on the O/S AND a faulty switch (now on the N/S). Use your meter to compare the operation of each switch.

Is it the wiring from the car to the door? Could be broken due to flexing when doors opened. There is a connection block inside the door and another in front of the door in the footwell. Check continuity whilst opeing and closing the door
