Many do creak, often the result of a poorly fitted replacement screen,,,,can be rectified, correctlt fitted screens never creak
do a search on this forum, quite a few threads in the past. Never suffered it on a 993 myself, maybe just lucky.
Thanks just looked through some of the old threads..looks like it can be sorted albeit with a bit of effort

I had a new screen fitted to mine last year. First attempt was shocking, was promptly ripped and out and all done again with a second set of parts.
993 screens creak due to poor fitment when replaced - period. You can spray some lube all you like but fundamentally it's a poor fit you're masking.
If it's being replaced insist on a genuine screen and outer seal. Porsche are aware of the creaking tendencies (!) so supply a Teflon tape. This tape should be applied to the aperture right up the edge where the outer rubber seals. (ie. the rubber seal should sit on the edge of the teflon tape and not on the paintwork).
Make sure whoever is fitting it knows how to do 993s - they are hard to get right! The screen has to go in absolutely central to the aperture, if it's too tight on one side relative to the other you'll get the creak. The second attempt on my car was with 2 fitters lowering it into position.
When done right it'll be silent like mine now is

I used some Halfords 'dry bicycle chain lubricant' [similar to the Pedro's] squirted just under and around the outer seal. It goes in as liquid but dries to a waxy consistency. It really works!
I'm tempted to try that this weekend, but I'm paranoid that the lubricant might react with the seal and the windscreen will fall out under hard braking.
How long ago did you do this?
About 7 months ago. It's still working.
The outer seal does not do anything to hold the screen in (its bonded in), it just tidies up the gap and reduces wind noise (yeah right!)
All you need to do is wet your fingers with the chain lubricant and run them round under the seal. you don't need to go squirting tons of it in there (it will only come out all over your paintwork when the body/screen flexes)

Since I picked my 993 up last week, I've noticed a creaking from around both sides of the dash when I've driven it on uneven roads or when I've hit a bump. Do you reckon this could be the screen problem. Any way of diagnosing it? It's just that everything seems so well screwed down around the dash.

yeh that sounds like it - can be easily diagnosed because in most 993's it's the only thing that makes a noise inside the cabin.
