Just picked up my lovely silver 993 C2S yesterday and after going over a couple of speed bumps this morning - very slowly I might add - there's a horrible scraping-type noise coming from underneath when I go over normal bumps. It's not the bodywork. Is my suspension knackered or what? It's put a right damper (no pun intended) on my new purchase. I have a decent warranty though. Can anyone advise please?

I was going to ask that question too - a scrape or a creak/groan? If the latter, its your bushes matey so get under it and give them a good clean and squirt with something lubricating.

Get it to a good specialist. if there is any suggestion the shocks / springs are worn then replace or better upgrate them. It will transform the car. I have a C4S which was sharpened up immeasurably by sorting this out. 1-2 k will seem like a horrilbe sting if you've just bought it, but its worth it. 993s with tired suspension are common and rubbish by comparison to the real thing.

Hope it's not grounding out? eek

993s are pretty much bullet proof, but 2 chassis related components will be on their last legs by now (due to age if not mileage)

The first are the dampers - they are past their best by 40-50k miles. Porsche fitted Monroe dampers from the factory - they simply are not durable. I'd recommend a change to Bilstein HDs.

The second are the front wishbone bushes - the rubber starts to split as it hardens with age. Means buying new wishbones from Porsche which are not cheap.

Unfortunately, as this is normal wear and tear I doubt if your warranty will cover it.

Other than these 2 points you'll have a lovely car - enjoy it

I'm having both replaced on Monday - RS wishbones and Bilstein HD/M030 suspension. Should breathe new life into the old girl. Can't wait driving

The RS wishbone upgrade is a good one - well worth the additional £15 a side! - turn-in seems sharper

Scraping sound front , unless knackered , sounds like brake cooler 'flaps ' point staright down towards road and direct cool air onto brakes ..........lowest point up front after any spoiler/splitter that may be fitted

Yes, it sounds like brake cooler flaps or perhaps one of the trays has come undone from one or more of the clips.

If it is the brake cooler flaps, what's the solution? Surely all 993s don't make horrid scraping noises like this all the time.

Ok i brought them up, but if they re not just torn /loose , in which case u can buy a pair OE and fit them urself [ unless ur as fat as i am and cant get under there!] Then u must look at why the cars so low that they re scraping , did one get caught/whacked sometime and has just deteriorated till its catching ? Or is the supension on the way down wear and tear ...............sadly 993 supenders are not known for their longevity , but the result when fixed , should they be needed well worth the input................
