Theres Guigario and Stevens, but who made the updates to the current V8 styling? Was it just a team of inhouse Lotus designers?

Owens? Who the heck is Owens?

The original Esprit was styled my Giorgio Giugiaro. It was then re-styled in 1987 (X180) by Peter Stevens who also designed the Elan M100 and the McLaren F1. In 1993 the design was softened up again (S4 to V8) by Julian Thomspson who also designed the Elise S1.

Cheers,

Karl-Franz :-)

Don't forget Russell Carr. He led the team that did the final 2002 revisions - www.lotuscars.co.uk/template.cfm?name=Esprit_MY_2002

He was also responsible for the Elise S2.

Other thatn the rear tail lights, exactly what did Russell Carr do on the MY02 Esprit that warranted a whole team!? It does'nt look like much of a revision to the shape: usual Lotus bodges of new wheels and additional plastic. Not even the gross wing was changed, did the 'team' run outa cash, or ideas

Hi Brother Nicholas,

This is exactly why I didn't really count Russel Carr. While his work on the Elise S2 was substantial (and well done IMHO), the re-work of the Esprit was very trivial.

KF,

Hi! MY can also mean Mid-Year such as with my Esprit, a 1985 Mid-Year Turbo (not '85½).

Different Brakes, Front Suspension, Transmission than any of the previous US Model 'G' Carb'd Turbos. The Service Notes even make reference to this. 1 of 61 built. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
