Engine History
Discussion
Hi
I've just been given a Locost, and I want my wife to race it. Problem is we live in Malaysia, and we can only race it as a 'Classic Car' as here is no kit series. so I need to demonstrate that the Locost was capable of production before 1986 and that the engine I want to race was used at that time, by at least one person. This is not impossible as the race committee are good and have already given me a dispensation for a Phoenix.
The age thing is OK as I have some articles stating Ron Champion designed the car in 1960's but any further info appreciated.
The engine in the car is a Datsun B15,(1500cc 80 Bhp) and is a great engine for a beginner, not to fast, and solid, I'd like to keep it for this season. I know Datsun built the BMC A series under licence and this looks like an BMC A and/or B series, non cross flow push rod, (even looks like the rocker cover of a MGB may fit), does any one know the history of the B15 Engine? If it is sourced from a a/b then I think the race committee may accept it.
Thanks
Kelvin

Might be worth asking your local Datsun/Nissan dealer (or even contacting Nissan headquarters for your country) and seeing if they can give you a year of manufacture for your engine from the serial number.
Don't know about Datsun, but some manufacturers use codings giving the year of manufacture on their castings. Might be worth a look at the engine or a Google search for more info about the engine history.
