I had a leaky pipe at the start of the week (just after the cold snap we had) and traced the pipe back to the power steering side of life, the fluid level is a little on the low side and needs topped up, so a trip to the local halfrauds ensued where I found there are 2 different GM spec's for PS fluid, anyone know which it takes or if it matters?

Mine's looking a bit dark so I might bung some new stuff in when I change my oil at the weekend. Dexron II you say? The pink stuff?

Actually, while we are on the subject what coolant do I need? It's always been a bit lower than the min mark (by about 5mm so no biggy) so could do with topping up.

I have a feeling that I've read on here before that the PS fluid will go dark almost right away and that's perfectly normal.

Maybe one of the dealer chaps can confirm that or otherwise?

You could well be right. It's due a full service in 4 months anyway and the steering feels fine.

Should stay pink if it is used with a PS cooler

So going by the above replies as long as it's power steering fluid it won't really matter...

The above is my only current option at the local halfrauds today, so suppose it will have to do...

I filled mine up yesterday. The Owners Manual said Dextron 3, so that's what we put in. Mine is a 2000 Commodore VT not a Monaro, but the manual said Dextron 3.

Usually says on the lid...

Havent a clue whats in mine..might be Dexron II or something. Defo not Dexron III, although thats whats in my gearbox ( and how I know I dont have it in my PAS !! ), so as long as its ATF/PAS fluid, it will work fine.

Had to top mine up the other week - spoke with Greens - they advised they used different stuff in the Monaros - brought some from them and it was Dexron III. Sorry didn't post yesterday - had to go home and see what it said on the side of the can
