I am thinking along this line too - if 911 goes I want a porker for the FURBALL to Italy.

Depends what you are used to and where you get them serviced. They are still Porsche so indies will charge £40-50 ph and parts aren't cheap but the cars are good value to buy. Get it checked professionally as you should be able to reduce the asking price by at least the cost of the PPI!
Budget at least £1000 to have all the bits you want fixed on your first visit to the garage. But after the first expensive bit you get great handling and a quick car for not that much money.

What the insurance like? I know it can be on classic car policy.

We pay 320 for unlimited mileage, 944S, car not necessarily garaged, for both of us to drive 28/35 with good records and as a third car. That's through Marsh which are the official Porsche broker. Also worth trying A plan as on the stickies as they gave a very competitve quote.
