MIL warning light came on, any advice?.

I had the MIL light come on yesterday after about 30 miles into a 320 mile trip, had no choice but to keep going. I cannot say the car drove any different after the light came on or that the fuel consumption was any worse. Any idea what it could be?.

The MIL light came on to tell you about a malfunction in the MIL light circuit?

No idea really, other than saying it's likely to be a sensor dieing but these things seldom appear for no reason. Best bet would be to get a fault code reader on it ASAP, as the problem will most likely get worse.

MIL = Malfunction Indicator Light (!) and means that the Lucas ECU that controls the fuel injection thinks that something is wrong. Unfortunately, although it is a clever box, it's ability to diagnose faults is poor. The only way to find out what it thinks is wrong without wasting a lot of money on trial and error is to buy or loan a fault code reader. I beleive that someone in the TVR Parts section of PH has one for loan, of for about £100 you can buy one (from www.bespokeintelligentsystems.co.uk ). Without this you don't have a clue which sensor or system to look at. You will probably find it is a wiring or connector problem rather than the sensor (at least, thats what I find).

probably error 88? carbon cannister needs cleaning... had you just brimmed the tank?

take it to somebody with a diag and they'll tell you.

Funnily enough i had just brimmed the tank, why would this affect it?.
