If the parts exist then why does it take so long for them to be delivered to the dealers?

Mines been stuck in at the dealer for three weeks and before they start work on it they want to get a selection of parts they might need. Am really starting to miss it now and what if, when they open her up, they find they need another part?

You'll have to move to Ireland.

We have no dealers over here so we've got very good at finding the "equivalent parts" and at doing a lot of the work ourselves.

what parts are they waiting for and where are they trying to source them?

Change Dealers! Which Dealer have you gone to? If it's main TVR dealer then you've probably made a mistake. Like any Main dealer, you take your Ford to a Ford Dealer, and it needs new Discs, he will order a Ford Discs, and and keep you waiting till the factory supplies it. A local Garage will source a set of identical Discs for you at half the price and wont keep you waiting.
A good TVR Indie will know what parts to get, where to get them from, and what alternative parts he can use, or source from.

It has gone back to the dealer I bought it from because the work will be covered under the warranty. The problem part, we think, is the shaft that drives the alternator. It doesn't spin when the engine is running and can be spun independently of the engine!! Been told it's an engine out job.

I think that because I usually do all the work myself, I'm not used to having to wait. To be honest, I'm surprised how much I miss it, I've only had it five months.

You do realise there is no TVR factory any more? That there is no clarity of who will pay for warranty work? That people like TVR Power have refused to take on warranty work as they aren't geting paid for it?

Have you been in a darkened room for the last year or something?

The dealer says the warranty is being honoured, so I assume it isn't with TVR directly. Also, I thought the parts side of the business had been bought by another company.

So what is going to happen when we need AJP8 specific parts, ie. the shaft I need for the alternator?

Ahh, I had this on mine, yes it is an engine out job as the front cover needs to come off, in order to do that you need to remove the crankshaft pulley nut, and you can't do that with the engine in situ.

From your description I suspect that you've stripped the woodruff key on the alternator jack shaft.

I believe that at one point the shafts were made to order so you may be waiting a while unless you can get a s/h one, may be worth phoning TVR Power direct or try an indi like Andy @ APM, as they seem to miraculously find ellusive bits!

Here's the offending little bugger!

You can always get stuff made bespoke if you really want it urgently, but have you tried engine builders like tvr power, autocraft, andy at APM, jamie at CRE, straight8 etc etc to see if they have the parts?

Thanks all, perhaps I'll help out by finding the parts for them.

Tim, it's comforting to know it has happened to someone else, there's nothing worse than having a unique, never come across before, problem!

Tim, any idea whether the sprockets come off that? I'm sure they should. The actual shaft ought to be fairly easy to turn up on a lathe. Where does the bearing sit?

It's difficult to tell, but it does look like a single piece with the only obvious addition being the bearing.
