Okay so lets say I have decided to go nuts and have looked around, with a few £k burning a hole in my pocket, for a 996tt.

Thanks to the richer bargain hunters here all that is left on the uk market are ropey manuals with 79,000,000 miles and 4 services in the book with no extra toys in lurid pink with Savannah (sp?) interiors.

Yet for £35k I spot a 40k mile tt with the ‘Irish’ ( ) kit in black with all the right trim and options and a FSH. But it's a sodding tip. Whilst lamenting the cruel hand that fate has dealt this car and I there stares out at me a 996tt manual ‘box which has just been rebuilt by Partech for £5k.

Go on would you? Could you even?

You would of course be storing the tip and putting it back in come re-sale so please ignore that bit of the equation.

Recipe for disaster, I'd say. What about installing all of the ancillaries/clutch etc. Keep looking.

To answer the question .........err yes probably. It was certainly the case that earlier 911's with sporto boxes could be swapped easily as Porsche left all the holes and tubes and base plates within the body to be able to fit the manual box and ancillaries. I would guess thats the case with the new era too. That said financially it's not worth the effort.
