Hi All,

Leaving the gym the other night I managed to jam the button on the handbrake.

Luckily its in the down position so I can drive the car, however, I can't pull up the hadbrake as it won't lock with the button stuck.

Car is under warranty etc but they're quite busy, so does anyone know a quick laymans fix?

Thanks in advance

you could get a little alankey (dont know what size sorry) and try and undo the aluminium surround on it if nothing else should let you see whats jammed

Unscrew the button and remove it. Then squirt WD40 down the shaft (ooo errr missus etc.) and wiggle the handbrake.

Put the button back and it should be OK.

If not then wiggle the button whilst moving the brake up and down.

If you still can't free it then it's centre console out jobbie and a bash at the base where the ratchet is with the universal adjuster.

if button is jammed in it could be difficult to unscrew - hence removing the aluminum cover....

I had the button stuck the first day I picked the car up from the factory 4 years ago. I took it back and they said that 'so and so' must have used the handbrake because he was a big lad. The guy pushed the handbrake lever fairly hard to one side, and, hey presto, it was fine! No trouble since. It may therefore be a slight misalignment that can be cured by a little bit of effort.

I bear no responsibility for what you might do, of course....

Thanks for the reply guys

The general concensus seems to be get in and wrestle the handbrake to submission.

Sounds like a plan, I'll give it a go!

Same problem and diagnosis by Gatwick TVR (RIP) with my 350. Try pushing the handle slightly to the side (usually away from the driver) and it should click back to normal. Then get it checked at your next service.

Perhaps I should clarify the button is stuck in the outer position. As in not pressed in, but jammed out (hope that makes sense)

Either way I'll try the wiggle, else a trip to the dealers it is.

Yep - thats the way the button was stuck on mine.

Give it a push in one direction as opposed to a wiggle!

Pushing it is then!

Expect a post sometime over the weekend asking how to re-attach a handbrake!
