Supercars - the Emperors new clothes and the truth!
Discussion
Exclusivity, M3 drivers probably see 10 other M3's every day as do evo and Scoobie etc, drivers.
Unless you live/work in or near a supercar dealership it is unlikely you will see one a week let alone daily.
And yes beauty is subjective and what is one persons dream is anothers nightmare. Otherwise we would all be driving identical cars with identical performance from one manufacturer.

Well, if these cars all looked great (in my definition of great
) and had crazy performance, then I'm all for it.
( And those who couldn't demonstrate their ability to handle them had to use public transport.
)But see, thats the problem you're definition of great isn't going to be everyones.
But you'd like it if all cars were identical in both design and performance and your total input could only be colour?
I think Henry Ford had something to say along those lines, "you can have it any colour you like as long as its black."

Yep! I don't care if you lot don't like it. Everyone will drive Cosmos Blue Chimaeras. With straight-through exhausts.

What aload of crap.
Gallardo has no road prescence, Zonda is ugly! I know everybody is entitled to their own opinion but I think your on another planet. As an owner of a car which has 'No road prescene' Its amazing how many people stop and stare. The Zonda is just what all Hypercars are about: Outrageous, in your face, performance
Andy.

Just say what you mean mate don't sit on the fence
And don't forget a recent post said the Murcielago 'only just' scrapes into the super category. According to the sense of some posts a gold plated skoda estate with a jet engine planted inside would also qualify as a Supercar.
In the beginning, (late 1960, early 1970s) it all started with the Lamborghini Miura followed by the Countache and arguably the GT40, though arguably road going versions were rare homogulation vehicles. These cars were clearly 'Super Cars' they were mid-engined V12 (apart from the GT40) and at the time, in terms of speed and acceleration, they were streets ahead of anything else available at the time with styling that was jaw dropingly exotic for that era. These cars were at the time clearly the benchmark for the term "Super Car" At this time Ferrari were slightly caught off guard by all this, their top model the Daytona was of similar performance to the Muira but was much more a very fast capable GT so the Berlinetta Boxer was brought to market by Ferrari to join the new "Super Car" club with its mid engined flat 12 configuration.
In the early days a "Super Car" was easily defined, in the following decades right up to today the gap in performance, exotic styling and exclusivity has narrowed and blurred to the point where, sadly, I think you have to be looking at the very top of the price range for the same exotic, breath taking impact that the those early cars must have had.
I drive a 1996 TVR Cerbera 4.2, which at the time could would have matched the performance of the current Diablo model of the time, but the Cerbera was never a supercar, it was a very stylish GT coupe with a fantastic interior, the likes of which have never been seen since but it never had that unattainable exclusivity.
To conclude, there are so many capable, fast, thrilling cars in all price ranges that the definition has blurred somewhat, I hate to say it, but I think the Veyron is the only "Super Car" that is that much further ahead of the competition in every department to be really shockingly fast and exclusive and unattainable, so I suppose now "Hyper Cars" are yesterdays "Super Cars".
