I'm relatively new around here but can't help noticing how many posts are from new owners, or prospective owners. Presumably these come about as existing owners sell their Chims. I was just wondering how long people usually keep their cars?

I appreciate that it's coming into the time of year for new buyers but how long have you had your Chim, and if you're selling yours are there general reasons for selling?

Can't see myself ever parting with 'Kim'.

But as a wise man once said "All good things..."

Had mine for nearly 9 years. No rush to sell; if I had huge quantities of cash to spend I might think about exchanging for a 500, or looking at the supercharging option.

yes Do it. It's like getting your wife to don a Nurses uniform for the first time after 15 years of marriage - revitalises your spirits.

Coming up for 3 years now with the Chim. Bought it as a keeper no plans to ever sell. Now trying to convince Mrs Bigdods that when I get shot of my Omega this year that a cerbie will make the perfect replacement as the family car.....

3 years next month and was bought as a 50th birthday present to myself.

Am planning to be in this for the long haul as there is no newer replacement for the V8 + the Chim 450 is ideal for my purposes - although a fair weather car.

I have to say that I don't know if I could live with it was my only car but would try if I had to. My wife might have other ideas though as she is not keen on longer motorway journeys as it can be a bit wearing.

Had mine for 7 years now. There isn't anything else out there, for the money I could afford, that comes close to the 5 ltr for power ans fun.
She has been very well behaved from day one despite the odd good thrashing, and she knows how to put a smile on my face.....

Had a few minor upgrades done as and when things needed to be looked at and certainly not thinking of getting rid.

Bought mine last year (a 94 400 and the poor girl had been a bit neglected) with the intention of spending whatever was needed to put it/keep it in great condition. So far it's been brilliant fun but my original estimates of cost have been well and truly exceeded! New dampers all round, new wishbones, chassis strip down and protection, silicon hoses and now the old girl has her engine being re-furbed by the guys at Henley Heritage - hope to get her back with lots of recovered horse power next week! This autumn's project will be a re-trim and full respray.

After everything I've spent, I intend to enjoy it to the full! But - there again, I'm seriously toying with the notion of adding a Tuscan to the fleet as well!

If you're wondering - just get one! You'll love it! cool

If your post is because you're thinking of getting one, then just do it (but do chose wisely)rather than wonder what it would be like. I came across a quote a few years ago that has always held me in good stead when faced with a decision: "the thought of failure is always less frightening than the thought of regret."

Had my 450 for two years. It's role in life is purely to put a smile on my face. I've looked at changing for some very "tasty" cars, but they seem to lack the soul and character of the Chim and are invariably far more ostentacious (which is a bad thing).

The thing that I can never get over is how much other people seem to like TVRs... when a bunch of yobs come up to you when you're parked up and tell what a great looking car it is, you know you've just got to keep it!

I 'just did it' a few months back. Helped as I had been looking then popped over to see one or two of them at London Thunder and somehow managed to buy one the very next day... A nice 450...

Not planning to sell, but keep it until I really have to. So with any luck will have it for quite a few years.

Half the fun seems to be what the plans are to make it your own. I've planned mine for the next 4 years. - It'll get the supercharge by then.

As a wise old man (hi Dad) once said to me. You only live once, so you may as well live it.

had the 450 for 3 years next month and this is the first car I haven't got itchy feet to change after about 18 months.

Doing a restoration job on my sons Elan Sprint which is keeping me out of mischief
