www.protechshocks.co.uk/ is you want a decent quality product but don't fancy the second mortgage for Nitrons. The guy that owns protech (Rod IIRC) is very helpfull.
I and other people I know have found AVO very helpful. www.avouk.com
Of the lower cost twin tube dampers you regularly see fitted to kit cars etc, off the shelf I'd say Protech's look the best value for money over Avos / Spax / Gaz etc. Avo have been around a lot longer though so may have more experience at custom valving etc but thats purely speculation.
If you can afford a bit more you then get into monotube damper territory which do generally perform better, but whether its noticable is entirely dependent on the driver and the car they are fitted to! If you're looking at that level then I agree with Sam, Nitron would be the best people to speak to assuming you dont want to spend Penske type money, although even they will set you back a grand for a set of 4 single adjustable dampers and significantly more if you want multi adjustable with remote reservoir etc.
As for springs, I can recommend Faulkners. You can get their off-the-shelf springs through places like Merlin etc, but if you contact them direct they'll make/supply you pretty much whatever you want.
