Griff 500 hire

Anyone have any experience of where I can get a Griff 500 for a weekend? Seems a good way of seeing if it would do what I want it to do, which is be a GT car not a sports car and ferry 2 of us around for nice weekends etc?

No direct help, but i have done a few thousand european miles (southern Spain via France and the Pyrenees) and can confirm that they are very comfortable and capable GTs. The main stumbling blocks are restricted passenger legroom depending how tall your wife is, sh!te/no air-con, and the roof, although a very good design, is a real pain to stow (everything out of the boot).

Hi David. Burriana has obviously done a lot more miles than I have in a Griff. But In the short time I've owned mine, one of the things I've noticed is its lack of range on a tank of fuel. Not so much of a problem when there are plenty of petrol stations, but I do miss the big fuel tank of my Porsche 911. As for Hire, don't know really. Good luck. CRAIG

No, don't do that. You'll always feel like you settled for second best.

I've taken mine down to LeMans twice, packed the boot full and surprised myself how much it carries. As a GT? Well that surprised me even more. The Griffith is one of, if not THE most comfortable cars I've ever driven a long distance in.

What distance are you getting Craig? I got around 240-250 at staedy motorway speeds on the Spanish trip ... and that included filling up as soon as it hit 1/4 tank. If you trusted your fuel guage you may get another 30-40 miles.

Got to agree though, my 3.2 Carrera had a bigger tank, hence bigger range ... but simply phenomenal mpg! On the last Megahoon I was filling half a tank to everyone elses full to 3/4 tanks.


As for going for the Chim instead ... same problems as far as I know, the roof still goes in the boot, though there may be a couple more inches in the passenger footwell?

We use ours as a GT,and it's more than up to the job.It's far better to get one with a/c if you tour in the summer or hotter places,as then you can leave the roof on and use more boot space.If properly set up the a/c works well,contrary to poular beleif.As burriana says,the passenger legroom is a pain,but some have moved their battery to the boot,and we plan to do this as well.As others all said,comfort is excellent on the long journeysI fing fuel enconomy is around the low 20's on average.

Having done our share of nice weekends i can testify that it's more than up to the job. We drive our Griffith on a regular basis to Italy (1100km) in one go, no problemo. Cruising at highly illegal speeds with the roof down and the sun on your head, excellent.
