This is something that has been bugging me for a while. There is no sticky or index of the good and worthwhile posts made on this forum. It is lacking in plenty of forums, but RULocal's recent posts have highlighted the issue in here. I also post on visordown.com and their 'index' thread contains a whole slew of useful info:

www.visordown.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186303

So basically, could we / should we have a similar thread here?

You can use the 'bookmark' icon to bookmark posts (see bottom left of page).

Yes, I'd noticed, but that isn't really very useful for newcomers to the forum. In a few months time the posts will have slipped off the frontpage of the forum and they won't see them.

Ah! I understand what you mean now. I was thinking it was for your benefit.

Nope, it isn't for my benefit at all. I've got a massive set of well organised bookmarks (I am it has to be said a bit of a geek). I've just got to find a mod and convince them it is a good idea. If you read the visordown thread, you'll see it is part posting guide, part FAQ, part index. I think having visible mods and 'welcome' threads does help foster a sense of community, which I feel is important to have on forums.

PH is a massive community. Once you've hung around here for a while you'll get to appreciate that more and more And, while you're at it, get yourself down to some PH meets too

I wasn't saying that is wasn't a community, but it does feel a bit anonymous at times. I guess, I'm just overly finicky about interfaces and what I expect from a forum. Comes from being a computer geek.

I wouldn't go to a meet or pistonfest, as they tend to be either based around drinking (I'm teetotal) or having nice cars (I drive a Citroen C4). Still, I'm not saying I don't like the site, I do.

Well, I'm going to let the thread die, as no one else seems to think having a FAQ/Index thread is a good idea. I'll just keep my section of bookmarks up to date and keep on referencing the good threads.

What we can do is flag threads to appear as FAQs.

So when you go to This Forum / Show FAQs - then these posts will appear.

Post up the URLs of the threads you want and we'll get them flagged.

Being t-total shouldn't stop you going to a PH do or PF. (Most people drive to meets anyway.) You'll make some great friends and remaining sober is probably a good thing if my past exploits are anything to go by hehe I famously had a Volvo 440 when I first joined PH. It never stopped me having a good time. There's no snobbery on here. If you do happen upon anyone who is a car snob they won't be worth knowing anyway.
