I went to my local dealer after a new number plate as I need one as the old one wont fit on my new tail tidy, what I want is a plain plate with just the the reg number on the normal yellow back ground, ie without the dealer details on the bottom, I was told all plates sold have to have the dealer details on them so they can be traced is this correct? I have tired an online option and can get just a plain plate, which is correct and leagal?

as I understand it new plates made up for you have to carry the id of who made them up so that illegal number plate styles are not produced by authorised plate makers, however it seems you can still get what ever you like online.

I might be wrong but this is what i understand as I tried to get a style made up for a car from halfords and they said they wouldnt do it as it would have their name on it by law, still other places though

I’ve had a ‘show plate’ made up which is slightly smaller than standard and has my own logo on it. Technically it’s not for road use but I think you would have to be pretty unlucky to get your collar felt over that.

There are loads of places that do them on the net, just google show number plates.

Hi Markys, i have had many plates made up by www.fancyplates.com
They dont have any markings on that you dont want. you design the plate yourself. size and everything.
Hope this helps and see you around Devon some time. I have just bought a Ducati monster so will be on 2 wheels too.

Same with malplates www.malplates.co.uk/

I've fitted the 8 x 6 because the legal size won't fit on my R&G tail tidy. You can't get the legal type font in a smaller size, but if you choose something very similar, you would be very unlucky to get pulled (assuming you haven't gone for a plate the size of a Dymo Tape special!!!)

Hi platers,
I was once in the pits of a dragrace in austria,
and there was a british streetfighter-type bike,
arse-up, lights, but no numberplate at all.
I thought, well, he must be here with a team,
who brought the bike with them in their truck, but, no.
Come sunday afternoon, race finished, guy turns up,
packs big tankbag for going home,
and attaches the plate to the back of his leathers with bungee cords !!!
Cheers,
Benni
