Gallardo Gearbox Oil Leak?

I'm noticing a small puddle of clear fluid on my garage floor, which I think I've traced back to the gearbox leaking.
When I got the car, it had a new E spec clutch fitted. I've done about 700 miles since delivery, it's now on 6,500 miles.
I'm wondering whether something wasn't tightened up properly, or maybe it's something more serious.
I find second gear very hard to get into until the engine is very warm (just like the older Ferrari's renowned issue) which I must say I was surprised that this heppened at all being such a new car.
The car is 2004 and manual.
It's still under manufacturers warranty.
Any thoughts?

The gallardo is not known for oil leaks at all. Mines done nearly 20K (albeit 4K on a new engine) and I've not suffered any and I don't know of any other Gallardo owners with any reported leaks.
Best get it checked out , as yo say its probably something simple.

My second gear is still a pig to get into when cold. Apparently all the early cars are the same so there's nothing to worry about. Apparently with the 06 models onward the box is alot better.

Had this with mine - a late 04. Changed under warranty by London Lamborghini who very kindly changed the clutch to the latest version at the same time (telling me the clutch was contaminated with oil because of the leak). I hadn't even noticed it but there were a couple of spots of oil on the garage floor. They told me the seal problem in the gear box wasn't that common but was a known problem attributed to seal component failure for a particular supplier's seal.
Was picked up and dealt with at the annual service last year.
Just had it serviced again and had the new high flow filters put in - great induction sound although difficult to hear over the Tubi. Also had them fit clear front indicator lens at about £15 a side.

I've been finding a few 1 inch diameter spots of 'oil' on the floor. It's certainly oil from the smell. A friend of mine tightened up the drain plug just in case, but that was solid. The car had the E spec clutch last year. It does sound exactly like yours, which I guess is a gearbox out job?

Ofcourse, transmission oil isn't clear, nor is engine oil.
And the Gallardo's coolant is blue.

At the back, the bottom of the gearbox is wet with oil.
Sorry to hear that you now have a problem Mark. Hope they get it fixed quickly for you. If you put it through Lamborghini assist you should qualify for a replacement car which I believe is an A8 or S class. Lambo assist is 0800 028 4849.
I just got mine back yesterday and the delivery driver managed to let the rear canvas cover of his truck fall on it's roof as it was half way out of the truck. He then got into a panic about that and leapt forward to stop the cover dragging and managed to drop his hand held control unit on the windscreen which then clattered down over the bonnet. Amazingly the only damage done was a very slight mark in the clearcoat above the drivers door. I took it out for a good run and it's great to have it back

Hi Iain,
When I originally sent the car back in November, I asked them to look at this, and I thought they'd sorted it, but it seems to have re-ocurred, but with the problem gear change I'm concerned that it's something more than just a leak.
I was debating driving it to the dealer on the open day (!) rather than letting Lambo Assist come out again. It always means 3 hours out of work which is a total pain. However, I think they owe me one!
Plus, what you've just said about yours doesn't bode too well. Glad you've got it back though, we went past your house yesterday on the way to the 'C' place a few miles down the road and saw it looking good in your driveway!

... nearly forgot. I finally got a formal printed invite to the new showroom opening night in the post on Friday
Sean at Lambo Brum has also made ammends for the ridiculous length of time it took to cure my fault by fitting the clear side indicators for free and giving me my first service FOC when it's due so overall I'm happy. The only fly in the ointment is that they seem to have managed to take a 5mm wide chunk of paint out of the underside edge of my bonnet near the drivers side windscreen wiper. I suspect this was done by someone leaving a tool of some sort resting on the base of the windscreen then opening the bonnet onto it.
The clear indicators look great though and the phone module does work through the MMI screen but they haven't left me any instructions on how to work it or pair my phone

What mileage is your car? Early cars affected were generally low mileage and therefore hadn't even had the first proper service.
And as Felix99 says, it was a known fault but rare.

On the bright side, even if you car's out of warranty (can't remember), Lamborghini's customer care programme is very good and (providing an owner hasn't been abusing the car) there's every chance the work will be done for free on a goodwill claim. Depends on their mood but it's not unheard of.

This is one of the reasons why I think people shouldn't be scared of a higher mileage car. 03 and 04 cars had the odd glitch (all well documented now) but one that's been used properly will have had it's foibles sorted by the dealer network and should be an excellent buy now. Lower mileage cars could have the occasional 'surprise' left in them and should always have a thorough inspection by a main dealer before purchase IMO.
I have to say, considering how few dealers we have, I think they're doing a good job, and Lamborghini Spa's customer care programme is excellent.
Most of the dickheads have been weeded out as well!
