Firstly apologies for yet another what camera thread...search didn't give any answers

I'm on the lookout for a decent point and shoot camera for general use, travel photos et al.. There are a few Canon refurbished Powershot A640s on ebay at the moment for a good price, so was wondering if anyone has owned or would recommend this. I've currently got a pretty ancient A40 which has always taken good shots but is pretty bulky and so I'm looking for something a bit more modern.

Any views or recommendations?
Cheers, Mike

I've got one and am very pleased with it. The flip out LCD seems like a gimmick but I have found it to be really useful.

Size wise, it's quite bulky for a compact but just about pocketable (if that's a real word!). It's still a lot easier than lumping around a SLR when on holiday though and still gives quite a lot of manual control and good quality pics.

Would recommend it. I bought mine online and saved over £100 compared to several high street retailers.

Cheers for that, any ideas on where to get the best deal? Amazon (the best price I can find) are currently at £199

Badger,

I've just got one of those refurbished A640s (delivered yesterday).

I've been using a Powershot A520 for about a year as my carry everywhere camera. The A640 seems to handle much the same but has the twist around screen which is useful. So far I think the A640 is going to be a cracking little camera. I'll take a few more shots over the weekend and let you know how it goes.

Have you considered the A710? Bought one over Christmas and it doesn't stop impressing me
