Hello all

Car has been running rough recently.

Hooked her up to the laptop and noticed a minor irregularity in the Throttle Pot readings. That is, as the revs go up the difference between the two starts to get larger.

Warmed car up and removed drivers side pot lead and car improved slightly and ran quite nicely on its own. Put pot lead back in situ.

Removed passenger side connection lead and car faultered and then cut out.

All info appreciated...

Cheers

That would suggest the passenger side throttle pot is faulty.

Car runs better when only passenger/near side pot is in situ and rough/cuts out when only the drivers/off side is in situ...

Is passenger/near side number 1 or 2 on the software screen?

You should be able to tell when you have your laptop pluged
in and you unplug 1 of the t/p's. I've got the same prob with mine but it's not the pot cause I swaped them over and the opposit
pot started playing up so it must be a leak in the wiring or possibly coil pack/ht lead. I'm going to get new leads and try that first will post up results if any. Got to love tvr elecs.

similar symptoms I had on mine - changed lambdas , got new thottle pots (never fitted them )
... then realised it was leads - badly broken down and not noticed by my indie on the service ...

water in the ecu plug was another fault I had when indie didnt put ecu back in upside down!
that gave me some worrying symptoms

fingers crossed its simple for you ...DAS

I meant total opposite - the driver side is the faulty one !!

Are the pots fixed in one position by the screws, or do they move about from side to side when loosened.

Reason being, am probably/maybe going to change one and am thinking/worried how fiddly they might be to get back on...

The throttle pots are adjusted by loosening that screw and moving them. Your also meant to seal them in with silicone - which always confuses me, because if you do that how are you meant to adjust them?? Does anyone else know?

The throttle pot can only be moved a small amount with the two flat head screws on the back. For more fun you can unscrew the two allen headscrews on the silver collar and move that. No silicon required.

Last questions then...? No more I promise - on this thread anyway !!!

How does the pot read the throttle rod movement?

...and what should the pots be reading with engine off but ignition etc on when hooked up to the laptop.

There seems to be differing views on a tickover percentage, mine are set at 18%, tickover at 950rpm, which is the same as when the car just has the ignition on and not running.
In your origional post it says your tp readings go up unevenly, is there a lot of play in the throttle cross link. This will cause the n/s pot to start going up first, then the o/s will start after all the play has been taken up.
After all of that, if the car runs ok on one pot and stalls on the other it sounds as though the pot is faulty, they are just a variable resistance and if one goes wrong the other resistance reading is substituted, so the car runs best on the good pot.
Good luck hope any of this helps

The throttle pot has a D shaped cutout in its centre. If you look at my thread on what to bugger up next you'll see the D shaped bit on the end of the butterfly rod.

The thottle pot is a variable potentiometer. As to what its dormant resistance is. I'll look later tonight if you want.
