Hello All,
Just after some advice really. We're strictly amature photographers, but i'm trying to find a way to share my pics with the world (well, mainly friends and family). We've got a fair few pics already that we'd like to share, but with a baby on the way, we're likely to have a lot more in the future.
I've looked at some different options that are available to us, these being...
Gallery 2
---------
I currently have a VDS pro account with Register1, but I'm only using the gallery tool, I like gallery, it's fast, it's easy to use and it allows nested albums. But, I think the VDS pro is a little over-specced for me, so when it's up for renewal, i'm likely to try and downgrade to a normal VDS account which is cheaper but doesnt have gallery as a powertool.
Picassa
-------
I've had a look at the Picassa tool from Google, it's seems pretty good, the free account gives you 1gb space, and allows you to upload albums from your PC to the web. It doesnt however seem to let you nest albums, and this is a bit of a pain.
Flickr
------
I've briefly looked at flickr, it seems a little bit pro for what we will be uploading. Is our album of family/friends/holidays/car shows/Zoo shots e.t.c. going to be out of place on flickr. It does allow nested albums, and with a small fee of $25 or so a year seems fairly reasonable.
JAlbum
------
I've looked into Jalbum and hosting it on my webspace, but it seems like a lot of effort. Maybe i've not spent enough time working on it.
Does anyone have any other tips or ideas for us? I know from experience of this site, that most of you are accomplished photographers, and I know that we're not, but what would you suggest.
Thanks in Advance
Colin

I have my own hand-coded site which I use for things I am especially pleased with as it takes quite a lot of time and effort to add new images - www.binaryimage.net
I also use Flickr for other stuff - www.flickr.com/photos/binaryimage
I would go with Flickr out of the list you are looking at. Jalbum can indeed give good results but it's quite a lot of work to set it up right.

At last an easy one. Not only share, but they can print, send T shits, mugs etc. I now have a SHED load of free space and can get any pic printed and delivered anywhere, next day. I mean, how good is that?

Well we've got some big events coming up this year, including a wedding and a baby, but we have a few months to go, so after spending the afternoon evaluating things, i think i'm going to set aside some time to play around with JAlbum. it'll fit nicely into my website, and I wont have to have the hassle of creating my own gallery from scratch.
Photobox looks great though, and after seeing the post prints in another thread, i think we may be using them in the future.
Flickr does seem to me to be a bit pro, all the stuff on there is of such a high standard, I dont think i'd want to taint it with my snapshots
Thanks for your time guys.

I use Zenfolio. They've got two options - $25/year with 1Gb for every year you're with them or $40/year for unlimited storage. I've got 2 galleries there (one is a virtual gallery with my best photos):
Gallery1
Gallery2
I also have a Flickr gallery but frankly Zenfolio looks sooooooooooo much better that I don't give the Flickr address to anyone.

Too many top level directores on there TR7V8? Perhaps a few top level ones then the rest underneath those, i.e. cars, personal etc?
I love Pbase for the directories. It's really easy to group pictures.

I'm not sure its too pro really, I say that becasue I use it and they havn't kicked me off yet, and my stuff is far from Pro!
same hereANother vote for PBase. Cheap, no hastle and really easy to use. All of the free sites I looked at had a down side - usually you had to buy something to keep them active or keep them updated or they'd be deleted. None of that junk with PBase and you can show images any size you like up to full size.

Nice one.
Another great thing is that the galleries are really customisable (if you've got the time and knowledge to do it). Unfortunately I don't have a clue about HTML and style sheets, so I have to stick to the default styles but it's totally editable.
