Hi all,

I know this has been asked countless times in the past but I'm going to ask again anyway

Given the following scenarios which sat nav system would you recommend ?

1. Birthday present from wife, budget of £200 or so.

2. Work pay for it, (virtually) unlimited budget.

My only experience of sat nav was a TomTom 910 I had for a couple of weeks a while ago which I have to say I quite liked.

I'm not bothered about all the bells and whistles, I don't need it to play music or interact with my phone, etc. I just want it to navigate. I'm not against having extras as long as they don't get in the way of it doing it's job !

I do want it to be easy to use, have full postcode search ability, easy to switch between vehicles and have the capability to save at least 40 locations.

I must admit I am drawn to the thinner Garmin units but the last thing I want to do is base my decision on looks, the next thing you know I'll be chosing my next car based on it's colour

All opinions welcome, and thanks in advance.

Andy

Have a look at this link regarding what's available.

www.thenavigationcompany.com/index.htm

Garmin Nuvi 660 is pretty good but a little pricey, the 300 range for your own purchase is hard to beat as is the Becker 7916.

I’ve been using the Tom Tom one for over 12 month now cost £210 but can be bought for about £160 now you can update it via your computer and I also downloaded the safety cameras for £20.

if you can afford an additional £44 then this looks good www.handtec.co.uk/section.php?xSec=24&jssCart=f61245bb6dd27cc84d58abf36e713dd4

I travel a lot, have been all over europe with mine and most of the US. Best thing I ever bought and i have a photographic memory for places.

cheers

I'm glad you've said that coz we've got the Europe version, but haven't used it outside of England yet. It's coming to France in June and I haven't got a photographic memory for anything, let alone places!

Thanks for the pointers all.

Looks the short list is down to the TT1 Europe or Garmin 310 if the wife's paying and either a TT910 or Garmin 670 if work pays.

The 910 I had for a while was very easy to use which is a bit of a factor as my wife will use it from time to time, but I found it a little bulky. I've not seen the Garmin units in the flesh yet so I'll go and have a look and compare them and make a decision then.

Thnaks for the link maddog-uk, they're the best prices I've seen so far.

Just a quick note - Tomtom one is cheaper on amazon than on handtec.co.uk, and free delivery too.

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/202-9955089-9473434?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=tom+tom+one

And they now come with speed camera info included.
