Stang and his little brother have a new toy to play with (dogcam Pro520) but I was wondering is there any tips on mic positions? I have it situated in the boot but still have bad distortion and barely recognise the V8. I have to say it takes excellent quality footage. Looking forward to April now to try it out. Just need the mic sorted.
The boot is unlikely to produce a decent sound as it is just a big resonant chamber.
Try mounting the mic' within some foam (keep the pointy end clear) and have it pointing out the rear screen.
If it is always distorting you may need to find a less sensitive mic' or try attenuating the signal between mic' and camera.
Is it distorting the signal even without going into the red on the camera peak meters?

I've had endless problems with dogcam mic's over-recording. On my latest DV camera I can get into a menu and reduce the record volume by up to 3 db - which helps a lot.
Other than that I shoved it in a pillow and put it in the footwell (of a Caterham) which worked quite well.
